What’s the quality of rental golf clubs at St Andrews or local golf shops?

Just curious what the quality of local golf equipment is and if anywhere has good rentals?

St. Andrews’ rental sets are current model Callaway.

My wife and youngest daughter were presented with brand new sets of clubs still in the wrappers at St. Andrews. The rentals at Royal Dornoch were pristine Titleists. This was in ‘18 but I have no doubt the standard is similar now.

Thanks to Air Canada, we got to use rentals for our entire trip and will say most courses use new rental sets from Titleist, Taylor Made or Callaway. We found the ones we really liked on the 3rd day and paid the course to keep them for the rest of the trip and just returned them at the end. There is a used club show right in St Andrews and we all bought good used wedges then heated the heads up, removed them, trashed the shafts then carried the heads home in our luggage.

All good sets; lots of options of where and what clubs. Renting is big business.
