Shanking Chips and Pitch shots

Recommended Posts

easier to hosel it from the inside as your going to be going out towards the ball with that path. with an outside-in path its a bit harder to hosel it, hitting it off the toe will happen a lot more. i would rather flirt with the toe than the hosel.

Not really, most the time from what I have seen on the forum the clubhead is kicking out early and doesn't have enough time for the path to come left to catch it on the face. This happens the easiest with a wedge. This is what confuses so many people on why they shank, they think it's too in to out and try to swing left making it worse.

Didn't say it was impossible, just harder.  Just easier to get stuck if you come from the inside if you have too much body movement.

Well you assume wrong then.... I am awaiting the responses from the forum elders (mainly @virtuoso because he is certified!!) so that I can know exactly what to do when I hit a shank. I will soon make a thread on my putting strategy and everyone can go in that one and tell me just how wrong I am so wait for that with "bated breath (see how I did that @Ripper212!)

R2L, would you please explain to Sean and Ripper that the threads that go to "sh!t" are the very threads that have the most staying power....and could possibly reach legendary status.

Rest assured, I will continue to tell you how wrong you are....but now in a more official capacity.

"He gon learn today!" I've created some legends that eventually got shut down due to too much venom in em!  I still got some ideas for some threads that I know will eventually get shut down so standby and be on the lookout!! I want to speak on shanks in chipping in pitching....but can't bring myself to do it cause I know I'm wrong in how I handle em!! I hit shanks on purpose to really test my ball striking! Spread knowledge Elder Virtuoso!

The pro that  went to for lessons for a few years ago got a bad case of the shanks at some point in his career and he cured them by practicing shanking.

It is possible to develop a case of the shanks with a mechanically sound swing.  it is also possible to never shank with a terrible swing.  I believe that the real key to overcoming the shanks is to understand that a shanked shot is no big deal and not a sign that you have lost your ability to function as a human being.  If there is a mechanical problem then fix it and move on.

I get what a chip is. My question or seeking confirmation statement was that for pitches, you need some wrist hinge.

Not little pitches, but yes on full shots.

  • 4 weeks later...

Learn something new when I read this thread

Toe shanks ? Do not see that very often   and didnt think they existed

Can remember if I ever hit a toe shanks ever

Hosel shanks way more common  , its a lots easier to hosel shank simply because there is more hosel in the wedges than other clubs

Can never hosel a driver cause there is no hosel in the woods

I think its easier to shank if the clubface is open , so generally I hold my irons and wedge closed
