Basic question about expensive shafts like Ventus

Hello all. I am not a fast swinger and have never invested a large amount of money in a driver shaft, so this question comes from a question of naivety. When watching the players on tour (regardless of tour) and most of the people on WRX, I see many people using shafts like the Ventus (just a good example).

What is so special or different about this shaft that is worth the additional $350 upcharge?

Is it worth it? Yes if it fits you. Can you find similar cheaper? Sure. For me, Ventus velocore was hands down better so I took the plunge.

Is it special? That is up to the beholder haha

Is it different? Yes they tend to be and with different exotic and more expensive materials used. Some are hand made which makes them more expensive in term of manufacturing.

Are they worth $350? In short imo hell no lol. That is the retail price and there are ways to get them under retail. I also do believe getting an upcharge shaft from an OEM is actually a ripoff because you can get a free shaft without upgrading and it is not like they give you that free shaft when you pay for the upgrade.

If you can try one and can FEEL the difference and see improvements, then it is an investment worth doing and getting one on the secondary market. If you do not feel any difference with no improvement, you are better off with the stock shaft offering.

OEMs justify the upcharge by adding in different materials and/or higher density carbon fibers claiming that their shafts perform exceptionally well while still retaining feel. If you can hit that stock shaft as well or better than the 350 dollar Ventus or whatever aftermarket shaft, then you've saved yourself quite a bit of cash. Performance and feel in this case is in the hands of beholder.

Quality shafts make a difference. I have several $300-$400 shafts that I got for less than half that just a few years after they launched. Shafts are hot when they first come out and cool off rather quickly. Some like Diamana White & Blue boards and certain Graphite Design shafts hold their value longer, but I like HZRDUS shafts and have multiple Hand Crafted ones that I got for reasonable prices by buying after the rage wore off.

I tested Ventus black, blue and hazardous black today in my 7 wood. What I found was dispersion was much better with the Ventus shafts. Swing speed was all similar. I had a 17 yard dispersion with the hazardous, 6.2 dispersion with the black and 2.2 with the blue. I also saw a 8-10 yard gain with the Ventus and faster ball speeds.

for some people it’s not worth it while others it is. The Ventus blue was 2” shorter than the other 2 shafts which is why i think it was more consistent but the distance did not go away. It went further.

each person it varies and you’ll get many different opinions I’m sure.
