I'm curious, the mini driver is suppose to hit off the deck like a fairway wood or use it to replace the usual driver?

Both.  It's main use is off the tee for those that struggle with driver or to use as their fairway finder.  It can be used off the deck as well however, it usually comes off low with lots of roll out.

Yeah, at 340cc there is no way to find the middle of that clubface off the deck. Making solid contact from the fairway means you're going to contact the bottom groove and effectively hitting thin shots that launch low and likely fly low. I can't see too many folks hitting this effectively from the turf as a second shot option. Seems to be a tee box option, primarily.

 

Something in the 250-275cc would be an interesting true tweener club. I don't think that club is on the market at present.

I haven't used the Callaway model obviously but the Taylormade mini's are surprisingly easy to hit off the deck. Not as easy as a traditional 3 wood by any stretch but I thought it was gonna be akin to hitting a driver off the deck and I find that I get far higher launch, when I'm swinging well that is 🙃

It's to replace the 3 wood for people who almost exclusively hit 3 wood of the tee due to having too much length to regularly need it into par 5s. (And by extension par 4s)

The smaller head and increased loft in comparison to a driver makes it easier to turn over and hit a draw, and gives it a usefull decrease in distance to avoid hazards a driver would reach, without giving up as much distance as a 3 wood.

Also for people with a mental block for hitting driver, like Eddie Pepperell
