CW shafts: Should they weight the same? I think so butt...

I ordered some constant weight shafts on closeout.  Three of the same length, brand, and flex have weights of 96g, 98g, and 104g.  I was thinking they would weight the same (single length iron experiment).  Is an 8g difference normal?  Lengths are very close to being the same.

Pretty sloppy if they're intended to be the same weight, but some shafts I know are "matched" in the sense that while the final weight tolerance might be on the looser side, full sets will be comprised of like shafts e.g. that 96g would have been part of set filled with 95-97g ones and that 104g with ~103-105g. It all depends on whatever tolerance guidelines the company decides to operate within.

If it were me and I didn't want to return them i'd just make lemonade and use the heaviest shaft in the highest lofted club and the lightest shaft in the lowest, almost like an ascending weight set would do.

Sorry, Just have to double check - are you measuring the weight before or after cutting to the final playing length?

 

But when you say "lengths are very close to being the same" that sort of sends off warning signals.    The whole idea of constant weight shafts is that they will be the same weight after cutting to length - or basically they will be the same weight despite the fact that the shafts for the different irons will be different lengths after being cut to length.  It's curious because it's just not normal for anyone to get or need 3 of the same uncut (or cut) length.

It's common with wedges, or if building constant length irons.  

 

Are you sure the shafts are all the same PN?  Raw length is off?  How much?

Thanks for the answers guys.  I'll hold off until final length and then make do.  I'm a hobbyist and naive when it comes to cw shafts.
