Fixing Burner Crown

MHills

Recommended Posts

Sorry if this is the wrong place to put this. But not sure if there is a better place for this.

I recently bought a Burner Mini Driver and I suck, after a range sessions I wrecked the crown of the club as you can see. Clearly this isn't a warranty issue since I am terrible... but I was wondering if there is something I can do to repair this so it doesn't look as bad as it does.

Edit: For some reason my image is not attaching... so linking it from another site

Try to find a crayon that matches, and rub it into the scratches. Probably the best chance at making it look better.

56°-10 - Fourteen RM-4 H grind - AMT X100

A paint pen like this would likely be your best bet.

Would sanding it down and trying to get rid of the scratches be okay? Or just try and fill it in?

I would fill them in since they've gone through the paint. Putting some clear coat over the paint fill might also be a good idea to help with the durability of the repair.

Yikes! Ouch! That poor golf club!

But in all honesty, sanding down the scratches isn't a bad impulse - certainly. In order to truly take care of that damage, you would have to go through that process. But, that isn't something that I would take on myself. I'm not a painter and its a pretty involved process. If going that route, I would send it out to a dedicated club refinisher.

But, I have had good success using Sharpies to fill simple paint dings in used clubs. It does enough to fool the eye at address.

For a simple fix - you might try to knock down the scratches just a bit with sandpaper or other - then fill with matching color. If done well, you won't notice it too much.

Sanding it down “might” affect the structural integrity of the head.  I wouldn’t do it.  As has been mentioned, fill the scratches with something is your best bet.
irregardless, you should be looking at the ball, not the club head…..

Car wax works wonders too. It's meant to buff out and fill in minor scratches and dings. I have used it numerous times.  Fill in with paint where necessary when done.

That works fine for clearcoat scratches but it looks like the scratches from the photo above are all the way through to the metal. Curious to know what the OP hit to cause that, doesn't look like your typical sky mark caused by a golf ball.

That is great, I would have expected them to have something, that's why I suggested send a note, but their site is so hard to find things on.

I filed down the crown of the previous model. I tee'd one up high on the course, got right under it and the crown front edge got badly scratched - quite deep, which is weird. I had miltuple lines, no idea how it came out like that.

I used a fine file and just went all the way around the crown and underside. It's now just bare metal. Tape off the edged with electrical tape to stay within the lines.

I tried to paint it and to use sharpie, however, it was not so rubust. Currently just bare metal.

I like the Crayon idea, maybe the wax inside helps to smooth out the finish a bit. I actually like the aluminium look, somehow the black on black on black was difficult to align the face.
