TaylorMade TP Black 2008

Recommended Posts

My ball of choice is the Nike One Tour but I play a lot of golf and wanted something that I could hit all day with out tearing up the cover as much as the Nke One Tour. I don't mind going through balls and I feel the spin out of the One Tour is worth tearing up a few covers. The problem is that I don't want to go through a box of balls in 2 weeks. I decided to try the TP Black because Dicks's had then for $55 for 2 doz. I had played the black in the past and just didn't like the ball but I am glad I gave it another shot. While it will not replace the Nke One Tour I will play this ball on the days when my score does not matter as much as the practice. The spin is slightly less than the Nike One Tour and I have to keep that in mind when going at front pins. I don't have the ability to suck the balls back on the green like the One Tour but I play for it. The ball spins great and the greenside touch while a little firm does not bother me. Drives are great and I can still work the ball well enough when needed. Durability is top notch when compared to the Srizon Z Star, Pro v1 and Nike One Tour. This is exactly what I was looking for as a daily ball. I have played one for 36 holes and it looks the same as the Nike One Tour/Pro V1 would after 18.

Solid ball, comparable to ProV and Callaway i and other 3 piece balls. Of 3 piece balls TM TP Black would get my vote. That said, I don't play 3 piece balls because they spin too much.

Played the Member-Guest at my club this weekend and gamed the TP Black. Was the first time I had played the ball and came away very impressed.

Pluses:

- Long off the tee. Five or so yards longer than a PROV1 or Nike One Black

- Great feel on the putter. It's definitely not a mushy ball, provides firm feel off the face

- Medium to high traj for me, and I'm usually a low-ball hitter, so it helped

Minuses:

- It's a spinny ball. Make no mistake. I have a slow SS and was spinning wedges off greens every 4th hole. I wouldn't necessarily say this is a negative, as it'll come in handy as the greens firm up this summer. But some of my friends who have fast swings, or really pinch the ball wouldn't be able to control the spin.

Overall, a really good ball. I played from hole 14 on Saturday to hole 18 on Sunday with the same ball and it showed minimal scuffing...was still playable. So I'd put the durability on the high end as well.

Are the 2 dozen for $55 (either Black or Red) a old model? I've seen this price at Wal-Mart (Online) and some other golf online retailers....

Thinking of trying them out over the current Callaway Tour ix in my bag...

Last I knew the blacks were for lower swing speeds but go higher and have pretty good spin.  I play the blacks since I was told my swing speed wasnt high enough(110mph).  The reds are I guess have a more medium trajectory for like tour calibur.  I think its like a prov1/tp black or prov1x/tp red type deal.  I can hit prov1x so after I finish this box of blacks, I'm going to try the reds and see what happens.  Other than that I like them a lot.  I've bought them for the last 3 months.  The ldp feature I think actually makes a difference because I feel I hit it bad but I might lose about 10 yards?  I think they're just as good as the prov's.

i don't believe they have any thing to do with swing speed i swing at 115 average according to track man and i play black it is just
black= more spin harder feel higher flight
red= less spin softer feel lower flight
