A couple of changes. I put an old 1 iron back in play after it's spent a few years gathering dust in the cupboard. It's an old Cobra TRD which is a bit weak-lofted and essentially looks like it might be a 'one club option' in lieu of swapping out the 1 and 2 iron as the conditions dictate. I've been looking for something like a Pro Combo Tour 2 iron for ages and then thought 'hang on; I've pretty much got one in the cupboard downstairs with Cobra stamped on it...'

 

I also finally got a sand wedge I've been tinkering with to play the way I want it to and put it in the bag. An odd one: a raw Iron Nelson wedge.

 

I also managed to play again today for the third day running - which almost qualifies me as a 'golfer' again... :rolleyes:

I've played for three days running and tee-to-green I'm steady. Not quite knocking the flags down every hole but shooting somewhere near the handicap.

Bourbon barrels can only be used once for bourbon, so they are exported and used for whisky. The avatar is just a photo of the original Jim Beam marking on the end of nearly every bourbon barrel we get at work. IIRC the barrel in question was a Tullibardine :rolleyes:

I don't get it cheap mate - so I have to rely on slugs of Suntory when visitors come round. The Laphroaig gets hidden in the back of the dogs' kennel.

 

That Suntory's not actually that bad. And it's great for polishing up brass.

Never something I've tried.

The only open bottle i have in my collection is a cask strength(~60%, cant remember without going and looking) '88 Macallan from a sherry butt.

Japan's finest 'whiskey substitute' Paul. Basically, it is to malt liquor what British Leyland were to cars.

 

If anyone I like comes round they get Bells.

 

The top drawer stuff is reserved for me, my dad and/or people who can affect my career. Glenmorangie and Laphroaig are my favorites, and I've been known to splash out on a nice talisker too. My ex father-in-law was kind enough to sort me out with a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label a year or two back that I haven't opened yet. Mainly because I suspect his daughter may have poisoned it.

I would like to congratulate you, I often come in your thread here and stare at your bag and try and break myself out of my club ho-ing ways. It has so far failed, but I have hope. :rolleyes:

I tend to chop and change putters on a whim, and I occasionally swap the 1 iron and sand wedge about a bit (as per this week) but I'm a great believer in the 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' principle when it comes to the rest of the bats.

 

Until the grooves disappear on a set of irons they're fair game in my book and I actually like looking down on a nice bullseye mark through the chrome.

As i can tell my friend, you like the odd drop of whisky, i got a nice bottle of VAT 69 here, my Grandfather used to drink the same label back in WWII

For what its worth..... VAT69 isn't a 'malt' as such. Its just a blended scotch whisky.

It's a bit draughty mate, but the thing that's putting the kaibosh on any golf during my rest days is the incessant rain. I'm still trying to make a decision on whether to game the Cobras but the weather isn't helping the decision-making process.

 

I did think about taking the clubs out for bash when things brightened up earlier, but ten minutes into dog walking the heavens opened and soaked us all. The days where I'd hit balls in the rain are long gone.

We had our dose of the torrential rain yesterday, today is just windy. Its calming down now, but by the time I have my tea and get out it'll be nearly dark and time to retire for a few pints.

 

On a more positive note I gave DHL the abuse they deserve this morning :swoon2:

Played this morning and, after today's performance and a few solid practice sessions with them I'm bagging the Cobra blades I picked up last month.

mat - got any pics of your new blades? I don't think they're the old Norman grind Cobra's but the earlier Cobra blades with Greg's signature in the back of a (very small) cavity. Is this correct, or have you got something even (ahem) sexier?

They are the blades - albeit I've got a Norman Grind 1 iron (the oversize CB one) that occasionally sees service.

 

I'm going to have to trawl through some old posts and pare down some of the picture attachments as I've run out of space.

 

Basically, a new looking set (they've been rechromed) of blades with a load of lead tape on them - covering up the great man's scrawl.

 

It's the first time I've not had Nike irons in the bag for abot 6 1/2 years thinking about it... :good:

Another Nokia something or other. The camera's actually worse than the old, knackered one but, for whatever reason, the software suite thing won't have it with this new one even though I've followed all the instructions etc. etc... :lol:

 

Sadly, I'm embarassingly inept with anything IT related.

 

I also need to still skim through my old posts and delete a few pictures to free up some space as I'm apparently out of upload capacity. Bah.

 

Crap as I am with technology, I hit a cracking little cut 4 iron into a crosswind to yard this afternoon though... ;)

Software? forget that pish mat. Assuming you've got a cable to goto a USB port; hook it all up and read it like a USB drive. Works with mine anyways.

 

Not that the camera works on my phone, thats long since defunct. bah.

Had a knock round the course this morning and a play with the laptop this afternoon.

 

Neither was very successful; the upshot is the old faithful irons have gone back in the bag and I still can't post any pictures... :drinks:

Clubs are great, mate. It's pilot error. I'm just not as consistent with them as I am with my old faithfuls (albeit they're not really all that old yet at 18 months or so) and I can't get 100% comfortable. Same story as the old 681s: Beautiful iron, and looks brilliant on paper, but the old faithfuls just work maybe 5% better...

 

I also decided (after vowing to cut down on unnecessary putter changing) to change putters... :fool:
