Camilo Villegas club in water. testing hazard

Recommended Posts

potentail DQ?
i saw camillo made a 7 on the 18th hole today. he hit his tee shot into the harzard. advance his second shot from the hazard 50 yard up the hazard. He took a swing with it making contact with the ground and then threw his club into the creek? should camilo not be penalized for testing the harzard? should be not be DQ for incorrect scorecard?

I saw that on TV... if I was the caddy, I would have left it there... that was jerky

I saw it too. I'll go one further.

Camillo's the type of guy that won't go out in public unless his arms are 17 inches around. He tries too hard to be pretty when he is ugly. He looks like the distant cousin of wolfman.

Well, wolfman gets mucho play

Never mind how he played...

What outfit was he wearing? And how purposely short were the sleeves to show off his 'guns'?

Far more important than his golf - as evidenced by the slavish media coverage over the last year or two.

I agree, he was testing the surface of the water to see how wet it was. Good call!

OP- Are you serious...? geezzz...

Call up Finchem if your that anal about it.

I was absolutely agreeing with the OP on this one yesterday. Sorry boys, it has nothing to do with being anal!! There are a lot of rules in golf that are anal, but they are still rules. How about that absolutely ridiculous rule with Cink's caddie not too long ago? Worst ruling ever! Still was a rule though. And this should have been no different. He was in the hazard and threw his club in it, same as if he were in a bunker and threw his club.

By the way...I am liking this as a hate thread too. Sick of him not doing ANYTHING and still getting attention from everywhere!

Independently of wether he wins or how his short sleeves offend you, is the question not "did he test the hazard?"

So to the OP I ask, when was the last time you played out of a water hazzard?

And if you have what would you be testing for by letting your club fall in the water?

I agree if you test the thickness of the sand in a bunker, or the depth of the grass in a hazard, but dropping a club in the water out of frustration, what information can you possibly gather from that?

I don't like or dislike Camilo-he has his own style (not to my liking) and plays better than average. It has no bearing whatsoever on my question to the OP:

What was he testing the hazard for?

no, sergio is the one who spit in the cup. I hate to defend camillo but i dont see throwing a club as testing the hazard. I mean we all know its going to splash. Now as far as sportsmanship goes it was completely horrendous. Golf is a gentlemen/women (got to be politically correct) sport, I feel we must uphold the standards of golf.

I hope the OP isn't one of those guys that thinks dipping a towel/clubhead into the water to help clean the club is "testing the condition of a hazard" as well!

The competition is closed, so no DQ for incorrect scorecard, but I think the OP may be right as far as incurring a penalty. I'm not a Camilo hater, if he can set himself apart with his 'guns' and Spiderman pose, then more power to him. But the situation is just like the Cink situation before the latest interpretation of his ruling, except it's worse because it wasn't smoothing of the sand for etiquette purposes, after he played from the hazard, he took a divot from the bank apparently still inside the hazard line, a drop/throw of the club into the hazard out of frustration, and Camilo's ball was in the same hazard albeit 50 or 75 yards up.

From Rules of Golf, Revised Decisions:

13-4/35 Hitting Sand in Bunker with Club After Failing to Extricate Ball

Q. A made a stroke in a bunker and failed to get the ball out. He then swung his club into the sand, but his action did not affect his new lie in the bunker. However, since A had to make another stroke in the bunker, was he in breach of Rule 13-4?

A. Yes. None of the Exceptions under Rule 13-4 apply to A's action. (Revised)

Isnt his spiderman thing testing the greens? he does it and doenst get penalized, but i would think he's testing the surface by touching it with his hands.

You can test the green all you want, it is not a hazard. The rule in question involved testing a hazard. Still wish he wouldn't lay on the greens though!

Although I can't find the rule or decision that supports this, I think that if you play a shot from a hazard, touching the hazard afterwards with your club isn't considered testing the hazard. Of course, since he threw the club into the water...well, the rules don't contemplate that.

This is true, unless your next shot is also played from the hazard, that is the situation being discussed. The reason Cink was penalized for "testing" the sand was that his shot from that bunker went into another bunker, therefore before he hit the next bunker shot, he was "testing" the sand in the previous one. Did that make sense?

Wrong. Cink's first shot was not in the bunker. He had to stand in the bunker partially to hit it, but the ball was outside of the bunker. That's why he could not test the condition of the sand.

Had his first shot been from out of the bunker, he would have been able to rake without penalty, even though that shot ended up in another bunker.

Frat, you're incorrect. As a matter of fact, I saw a golf quiz show a few days ago on TV that had Singh do that exact same thing. He hit a ball out of the first bunker into another bunker and then took a stroke in that first bunker. It was not a penalty.
