thanks, i have read those charts before. i was just looking for some personal experiences, i am just kinda worried a 6.0 is too much. the guys there says a 6.0 is about a x100, however i carry 180. which means i should play a 6.0? weird... anyone able to help me. PLEASE...

It all depends on how you load the shaft and whether you hit aggressively down on the ball or try and pick it.

My SS is right at 105 and though I hit down and through the ball, but I have a very shallow approach so I don't load the shaft as much. I play 5.5's and they are perfect for me. I came from S300's and TFR 6.0's.

yeah my swing speed is not up to 115 yet, i have only been playing for about a year though. i do hit down on the ball. i am worried the 6.0 will be too much, i also was thinking about getting the 5.5 but i can get a killer deal on 6.0s.

Forum Discussion with True Temper Sports

forum_ttlogo.jpg In this Fitters' Forum, Chad Hall from True Temper Sports discusses the differences between Dynamic Gold and Project X shafts in the first of a two-part series.

What are the differences in construction between the Project X and Dynamic Gold shafts?

Dynamic Gold and Project X are both constant weight shafts meaning that all the shafts in the set from long iron to wedges weigh the same. They are also produced in very similar ways. The one thing most golfers don’t realize is that Project X (and all stepless steel shafts) goes through the same step tapering process as shafts with steps. Following the taper press operation, the steps are removed through a process called swaging giving the shaft the smooth, stepless appearance. Some players associate stepless shafts with improved vibration dampening, but there is no reduced vibration in stepless versus stepped shafts.

What are the differences in performance characteristics between the Project X and Dynamic Gold shafts?

Project X will launch slightly higher (0.5°) and with slightly less spin (200 rpm) than Dynamic Gold due to its slightly softer tip section and firmer mid section. The firmer mid section of Project X will give the player a slightly stiffer feel compared to Dynamic Gold. Both shafts are designed for the better player or stronger swinger seeking shot control with their irons and a lower, penetrating ball flight. Players with quicker tempos may prefer the heavier weight of Dynamic Gold.

We have seen several Tour players switch back and forth between the two models (Davis Love III & Camilo Villegas are two that come to mind). At The Players Championship this year, there were 66 sets of Dynamic Gold in play and 23 sets of Project X.

Project X 5.5Dynamic Gold S300Weight118g130gTorque1.7°1.7°Flex PointMid/HighHighIs S300 considered the same flex as 5.5?

We wouldn’t say they are considered the exact same flex because the shafts have different properties from grip to tip. Dynamic Gold is stiffer in the butt than Project X. Project X is stiffer in the mid section than DG so they perform differently from a flex standpoint. However, if a player is currently playing Dynamic Gold S300 and wanted to try Project X, we would suggest that he start with the 5.5 as it would be the closest comparison to S300 (and vice versa).

What are the differences between Project X 5.5, 6.0, and 6.5 flexes?

The main difference between the flexes is most specific to the butt stiffness. The higher frequency numbers (6.0, 6.5) mean stiffer butt and mid sections. This is what gives the player the feeling of increased stiffness as the player is feeling the section of the shaft closest to the hands. The tip stiffness also follows the changing butt and mid stiffness so playing characteristics match the progession in flex.

Chad will discuss the performance differences between Dynamic Gold and Dynamic Gold High Launch as well as Project X and Rifle in the next Fitters' Forum.

Check this out and it should help.
