Cheaper Rapture V2 Stock Shaft alternative?

I'm confused...just for clarification:

You would like a driver like the Rapture V2? You would like a different shaft like the UST V2? Or some combination of the previous?

When I first read the topic I thought it was going to be about the ProForce V2 shaft, not a Ping driver.

Off the top of my head either the Adams A4 369$ or less depending on where you get it. Also the Hyper x/hyper x tour 199.99 almost everywhere.

they didn't have the A4 there. I did hit the hyper x. not sure if it was tour or not but i couldn't seem to get it up in the air. how reliable are launch monitors anyhow?

I guess I can't do a direct comparison with the Rapture V2, but the G10 is a very nice driver. Price is pretty good these days as well. I'll second that vote.

I agree with the last post. You should save some money and get when you can afford it. I actually just put some money down at my local golf shop today. Its a mom and pops store so they let do like a "lay away".

Your first post said that it "blewe the others out of the water." I would definately save up and get it, it might take a month or so.

It's definately better than buying one and not liking it after a month and wish you had gotten the Rap V2 originally. Go :smilie_ping:

so was it probably the shaft that suited me and not the head?

Not necessarily. It was probably the combo.

After going through driver wars, I'd save for what you really want. In fact, the last driver I kept for any length of time was a Ping.

I did demo the G10 and V2 together on a trackman outside. The V2 gave me better numbers in the same degree head -- both had their stock shafts. For the demo, I did best with a Ping 10.5 Blueboard Regular. The shafts in Pings are 350 tip.

I enjoyed the shape of the V2, its stability and sound. Its feel was very solid, not so much "hot." When I can get one, I'd probably end up with a digitally lofted 10, BB Regular, at 45.25 in. and D2/D3. If you custom order, you can specify factors such as length, digital loft, grip, swingweight, and shaft. Remember, there is so much they can do with length and swingweight if you stick with a 63g shaft -- I normally like my drivers a tad below 45 inches, but one can always grip down.

just save and spend the money.... or in two months you'll be unhappy and only rebuying...

I have to agree with this comment too. From personal experience I can say even. If your mind is set on something, you know you like it, you know it works good...you're probably just going to end up being unhappy that you didn't just spend the little bit extra on what you really wanted in the first place.

Order the G10 with the stock 939 shaft from the Rapture.. I don't see why there would be an up charge and I would complain if they did....

There is a $20 charge to put a TFC 9393 in a G10 driver. Complain all you want, but they will still charge you for it. I've been there, and the dealer could not get Ping to waive the charge.

I did the opposite. I put the G10 TFC shaft in the V2 head, mainly because the TFC 9393 has a softer tip and it spins the ball more than the TFC 129 (G10 stock shaft). I wasn't a good fit the the Diamana BlueBoard, so I found this to be a good alternative.

With this set up, I find myself just creaming this driver.....12-15 yards past my old Ping G10 (I had an Aldila VS Proto in it).

I am seeing V2's sell at $329.99 on eBay every day in brand new condition, mint++++. Check out this guy.....he always has them......http://stores.ebay.com/GPPGOLF

thanks for all the replies.

i think the main problem is that i can't justify paying that much at where i am now (golf wise).

i don't have an official handicap but my scores are like my driver swingspeed....high 90's, low 100's.

my main problem is keeping tee shots in the fairway. everything else is fine...well not bad...manageable.

i mainly tee off with my 3 wood because of it but it goes like 250-265. but it still leaves a long iron into the green.

haha...i want straight and long and cheap!! but i guess that's what everyone wants.

Find a used Adams XTD Pro 9.5 for under $100 and have fun with it until you can plop down some dough for the V2. I say that one because you can find them for about $90 or less on the bay or elsewhere.

haha...everyone seems to think i should save up for one so i guess i'll do that.

let's say hypothetically, i can't wait and end up getting one on an impulse....hypothetically...

can this driver be used into lower handicaps?

actually, do drivers models even matter to lower handicap people?

what do lower handicap people prefer and why?

I don't see why not?

When you get better and feel that the driver don't fit you anymore (if u get the V2), then you can always either sell it (e-bay) or trade it in for an upgrade. As many members have mentioned b4, Ping clubs hold their highest value in comparison to most golf club companies.

I'm a 5.2 handicap.

I pick a driver based on these properties, in the order of importance:

  • Does it look good when I stand over it at address - does it instill confidence?
  • Does it impart great feel?
  • Can I hit it straight most of the time?
  • Does it sound good (not like one of those aluminum baseball bats!!!!)?
  • Does the shaft fit my swing (get fitted)?
  • Do I hit it far enough, vs my current or previous driver?

Biggest factors to me are the first 2 above.

Different strokes, for different folks!

As to your other question......"can this driver be used into lower handicaps? actually, do drivers models even matter to lower handicap people?"

I'd say if you aren't hitting fairways, and you find a driver that does that for you more often than not, then, I'd say in the end you'll be lowering your handicap because its easier to hit your 2nd shot from the fairway than the rough.

But, buying a new driver at your stage of the game, in and of itself is not the answer to lower scores. Spending your money on quality golf lessons and practice range time will have a more immediate impact. Especially, practicing the short game 2/3 of your time, compared to spending hours and hours at the practice range hitting your driver.

You know what they say.....drive for show.....putt for dough.

In the end, if you can afford the Rapture driver go for it. Like others have stated, Ping used golf clubs have the highest re-sale of any club on the market, bar none. I'd keep that in the back of your mind in purchasing your next clubs.

Of course it can be played at lower handicaps, it's on Tour so that's not too bad. It sets up pretty square, is low spin and a fine fine driver. I'm inclined to side with those saying just buy it.

Since Ping Touring Pro Staff played the Rapture, and I assume that some are playing the V2 -- Yes, low hc's are playing them. Some guy won a US Open a couple of years ago driving the Rapture.

Also, if you are tempted to plop down to dough, don't buy it on the cheap -- or you'll end up spending more money changing shafts or selling it -- find a Ping Demo Days with a tour van and the Trackman they use, and get fitted for it outside. Bring your current driver(s) to compare.
