Just made a 7801 and it is heavy. Too heavy for me at 35" but to each his own. I know a lot of people are liking the heavier putter.

Haven't seen them at the GS here in Indy yet. But, the 7801 is interesting. I'd have to get a different headcover.

they look nice, I'm looking at building the 7801 model with the plumbers neck...looking to test out the UST Frequency filtered putter shaft..which one of the putter shafts would I need with the head...not sure if I need the straight 370?

The Tour Platinum putter is SOLID nothing is missing on this putter. I was in Austin for new years and went to Golfsmith for some golf ball's. I was in the club making area when the designer of the putter came by David Cersley, he had just finished grinding some wedges for a nationwide tour player and we started talking at the window. We went back to R&D to got his own 7802 TP putter for me to try. I went to the putting green and lit is up like a crack pipe at a snoop dog show. I asked him about the material, manufacturing and especially the milled face. Long story short they had the independently tested along side other name branded putters and the ball is on the carpet, into overspin fasters than most of the putters on the market. I tested it next to Cameron, Rife, Odyssey all of them, and this putter is awesome. I switched from a Cameron newport to the 7802 and took 26 putts first time out. Haven't taken more than 28 in the 5 rounds I had it. The putter is awesome the ball rolls heavy no skidding, or bouncing. don't worry about the technology just go get one and save some strokes.

I thought I'd share some in-hand images of these putters and revive this thread that has been bumped down.

 

Both putters have heavier heads and the finish looks great. I would say the praises Golf Digest gave it are well-deserved.

 

They do appear to be skim-milled though, since I can still see some of the cast imperfections in some areas of the putter. But overall they look really great and am looking forward to assembling on to try out myself.

I e-mailed GOLFSMITH about the headweight and was told 355 grams.

 

I like the idea of the cuts in the face that allegedly promote a smooth roll. I will be building one of these later this season, as the headweight suits me and I like the look.

The 7801 is 360g and the 7802 is 355g.

there is a guy on ebay right now that is selling the 7801 (item 370144537470) with custom paintfill which looks real nice however i wish he had the 7802 listed with the same paint colors.

I'd like to pick up the 7802 and would build it myself but I find it interesting that Golfsmith is charging $50 more to assemble the Tour Platinum putter over the SV1/SV2 putter, for instance.

I just noticed on ebay that there are 2 on it for double that price...didn't see anything special about those 2. I saw the custom new ones that were going for much more...but the regular ones??? c'mon ebay sheesh!

 

 

EDIT: I just noticed that that price is for the heads alone.....now that's a scam or very brilliant!!!! ;)

I'm not sure my pics are really a good representation of the finish of this putter. The best thing I can compare it to would be the starshot Pingwrx finish or the one of the Nike Unitized putter.

How does the insert feel on these? I am not really an insert guy when it comes to putters because they always seem to be too soft and I just can't get comfortable with the feel. I am intrigued by these putters. Putting one together for less than $100 seems like a good experiment. Love the 7801 head.

Its not an insert. It is the same material as the head, just with the ARC technology on the face. Similar to the yes putters.

It is a great feeling putter. Solid like the scotty's and Yes putters that I have putted with.

I just finished my new 7803 this evening and it is sweet (at least on the carpet). It is heavy, I chose to install a 10 gram counterweight in the butt end and installed a LAMKIN DUAL DENSITY TORSION CONTROL grip. It swingweights to about an E-4, which is fine by me, my MALTBY gamer is an E-0/D-9. I built it to 34.5 inches.

 

The ball leaves the head in a very "RIFE-like" motion; little if any skidding or backspin. I really need to confirm this on the green, not on my carpet. I love the feel and am agonizing about putting the 7803 in the bag. I still love my MALTBY and it has been a good performer for me (combined with a lot of practice and putting lesson).

It's not that bad. The thing about him is he's a scam artist; buys putters and paint fills 'em and sells them for a profit. But, still a sharp looking stick. He needs to take better pictures though! Can't tell people how crucial a good picture is for your eBay items.

I had the new 7803 out for a test drive today on a real putting green. My impressions from putting on the carpet carried over to the real green, this putter is for real.

 

I redid the counterweight and installed a SNAKE EYES logo V-RAD grip (heavier then what I had originally installed). On my swingweight machine, it now shows an E-1 and feels great (about 5 o'clock toe hang). At set-up, the putter encourages a mild, forward press to achieve good alignment. There are no alignment marks, but the cut out portion of the rear of the putter head aligns with the dimensions of the ball, assisting with centering the face against the back of the ball. The roll is very "RIFE-like", with the little dimples that GOLFSMITH puts on the face helping to start the ball smoothly.

 

Distance control was not an issue, even though it was my first time out with the putter. I did my four foot drill twice and went 17/20 and then 18/20. Before Winter is over, I will do the drill cleanly with this putter, very easy to use on knee knockers.

 

I plan on attempting some paintfill and will post photos of the putter when the paintfill is completed. I love the putter and it will be in the bag on WED when I play. It is rare for me to put one in play this quickly, I love this putter and recommend it to anyone on the fence.

I d'know. He's is up to something though, because he is a power seller and it is stricktly putters. There are a lot of guns on eBay redoing putters in some fashion and selling them. They must make something. Not to digress.....

The local Play It Again Sports here in town has the 7804(not a scratch on it!) for 49.99, 35" shaft, and the breast cancer Winn Grip(and they have the actual headcover!!! weird). May get it for my wife...if not, I'm getting it and regripping this bad boy for me!

I'd be glad to pick one up for you and send it so long as you cover all the cost. Why is it Sweden cannot order Golfsmith components? I've noticed the disclaimer on their website but don't understand why.

Are these putters the same color as the new Box Groove wedges they just came out with??.....kind of a faux oilcan look..
