WITB with MoaningM Betti Tour bag putters and Hickory time.!

Recommended Posts

Since you're from Wales, any recommendation for a good (but not the usual suspect) course in Bangor area? I'm planning to take a short trip to Holyhead, Anglesey, Bangor, and Llandudno/Conwy.

There are four that are stand out imo

I assume the one you are referring to is Royal St Davids?

Otherwise Conwy itself is a great course and Porthmadoc not bad either.

Personally though my favourite purely for the unbelievable views in Nefyn http://www.nefyn-golf-club.co.uk

Had friends who came over from the Us and had played Pebble and they said the. Iews at Nefyn were more spectacular. Make sure you play the peninsula as their is 27 holes. Tell us how you get on.

THAAAANNNKKSSSS!!!!

Will definitely try those courses you recommend.

Had the pleasure of playing Royal Liverpool Hoylake the other day, from the clubhouse the course looks very plain, but have to say once out on the course was far from it. Some really strong holes and all the par 3's were classics. The 1st and 16th (played the 3rd and 18th) around the practice area are brutal holes.

Great experience.

This is my favourite WITB idk why but this just relax's me seeing all those scotty head covers and all those blades.

Lol, i have got one of the old scotty cameron headcover racks up in the attic but never put it up!

I have just bought new irons and a new driver, need to put them altogether first, they wont be in use now until late this/early next year as its hickory and vintage time., pictures shall be forthcoming....

Jones bags, are excellent plain and simple, very solid with their dividers, surprisingly lots of room, more than enough for waterproofs, drinks balls etc etc. Obviously its collapsable so there is a little issue with taking the clubs in and out of the bag but if your as old, school as I am it really it isnt a problem.

Sadly over here the weather has turned, and not for the better been 20-60mph winds for the last week or two and with it rain :( so the Jones bag has been on the back burner of late and the bigger bags are in play, but if your in a climate where that doesnt exist, the jones bag is as classy as you will find.

Id also have to say the material it is built from really feels solid and will withstand quite a bit of punishment. All in all a good solod bag that looks the part.

Oh And looks unbelievably good with persimmon and vintage irons ;)

Thanks for sharing the photos of your shop. Some day I would like to have something similar. In the meantime I will make do with the small section of the basement dedicated to golf clubs and accessories.

Ok after reading Howard Jones' fabulous post on putter weighting and in particular when you cut a putter down (mine 32.75 sometime 33") how it might effect the balance, I tried the 'putt over a piece of paper' trick and did notice my stroke although pretty good but my poor stroke did indeed travel over the paper rather than under.

So up to the work shed I went and rather than strip the grip off I built a weight counter and punched out the top of my cameron grip so I could pop it in to trial out.

So after a bit if tooing and frowing With varying amounts of lead powder I got what I felt was a balance which felt good to me, the weight counter squeezed in after a little filling back, and thought I wont regrip but take it to the course for my round today and if it didn't work too well was easy enough to add remove lead powder to the counter.

BE1F2241-942F-4EC8-B6F4-B13D8BDFC37A_zps5yrw5bg2.jpg

So an Interesting day on the greens, I played pretty solidly the greens haven't long been hollow tinned so far from being at their best, but holed a nice one from 20 feet on the 6th par 3 then a bomb from 40 feet on the 10th to go -1 then after hitting probably my best shot of the day a 3 wood into the par 4 11th which was brutally straight into 3 putted from 20 feet.

Missed a few really good chances on 13, 14 and 15 then birdied the last 3 holing a 15 and then 25 footer on the last to shoot -3 69.

My long range putting has always erred on the negative side, but today I did seem to be more aggressive and found myself getting the ball up to the hole more often than not.

Has the weight counter worked, its difficult to argue it hasn't but the counter argument might be its also difficult to tell due to the current state of the greens, but i shall be putting a new grip on this baby this week with the weight in and see how the dice roll.

Had a few problems with the bronze finish peeling on the face of my Bettinardi 60 degree wedge, so having to send that back off. So have been on the lookout for a new 60 degree, popped down the club today and our pro had all the rotex 2.0 and 3 wedges, so took them for a quick test drive down the practice ground and came away this little baby.

Sits very similar to my old scratch 58 degree, which was what I was after, I have tried numerous vokeys and for some reason or other they just don't sit well on the eye with me. It has even Inspired me to get out of the cupboard my old cleveland 52 degree wedge, and am almost tempted with the 50 degree original rotex that i bought a while ago and have never used in anger.

I love the workshop, makes me sort of jealous! My dad doesn't allow me to build the shed into one. How did you come up with the idea, if I may ask?

To be honest when we moved here the shed was all but empty, I have always regripped and even reshafted clubs for 20 odd years so the first piece of kit i bought was the vice and a sharp knife. Seems to have spiralled since then :)

Great WITB post. Best bit though is the Tenby scorecard holder- I LOVE that course. Played the last two Open Weeks the first week of June, such a fair challenge and the only par 4 I've ever failed to par having played it ten times now (the 3rd!!). Looking forward to getting down there next year at some point- though can't come for Open Week due to work commitments.

Lol

Brutal hole indeed, on paper looks a breeze 390 yards long but always regarded as one of the toughest holes in Wales. Have to layup on the drive and then from a hanging lie hit to a green which slopes right to left is narrow and you cannot miss in on any side! Runied many scorecard, the only good thing about it is it as close the clubhouse as you get so easy walk back. :)

Did you play all week? Only played in the wednesday medal myself.

When you down next give me a shout and we'll try and get a game together. I can show you where not to hit it. Do as I say not as

I do :)
