Sorry maybe I'm out of touch because I haven't purchased balls in a while but...

We sell the ProV1 and ProV1 X in our shop for $16/sleeve in 2008...and back when they first came out I was paying $50-$60/dozen to use them in junior tournaments.

I don't know if it is because there are more options out there now, but this price is exactly what I thought the price would be coming out for debut.

I figured it would be $50-$60/dozen again, people would buy to try then sales will drop because most people don't see a huge difference between the ProV1 and a $40/dozen B330, then Titleist lowers the price and because it's the most popular "tour" ball people then buy again because the Pro's use it.

Come on people we know how this works by now don't we??

Do you think the r9 is gonna be $199.99 when it debuts in shops and stores?

I just hope other ball companies don't follow the lead set by Titleist...

If Titleist gets away with charging this much for ProV's, I will almost guarantee that other premium ball manufacturers will up their prices also. However, I don't see many golfers paying $55 for the new ProVs and the price will soon be lowered. I have been a ProV fan and player for a few years but I refuse to pay that much for golf balls.

oh and new drivers are worth $400-500

cmon you know you'll try some

Exactly.

It's like any company, everyone does this, it's not gonna change because the competitor is at $39.99.

It's everywhere in golf with new stuff, you don't put out the X22's from Callaway at the same price the X20's are do you?

People will also pay the $55 because its something new, just like they paid $55 when the original came out, just like they pay $500 every year for the next best thing in drivers, etc.

I can understand that for you folks in Canada  , but here in the U.S. all the big box stores were selling them at $45 per dozen or less. The very first Pro v1 balls sold for ridiculous amounts, especially on eBay. But subsequent releases have been more in line with the normal $45.

Good luck to the folks at Titleist. But I'm sticking to balls in the $40 category.

That's not much higher than their previous MSRP if I remember correctly. Not that anybody sells them at MSRP...

I think it would be suicide for Titleist to set their prices this high in this economy.

When the 2007 prov1 first came out it was 45.99 in golfsmith and pretty much any other place that sold aside from pro shops. I never once saw it for 54. I still hope it is a misprint.

I've never once seen GPP sell balls anywhere near MSRP. They've always been at (or sometimes lower) than street price.

If this indeed final pricing, I'm disgusted. I really would like to hear the reasoning for the seemingly $10 (or more) jump in price.

Didn't Titleist say that players wouldn't notice a difference in performance with their new ball? It seems like I remember them saying that when people were questioning the new ball since its a new formula.

I guess we will notice a difference in our wallet though. Maybe the lighter weight wallet in our pockets will help our weight shift...

I may be mistaken, but this ball is a complete overhaul is it not?

The 2007 version was just a line change no?

OK, so from those two statements, my understanding is that Titleist had a complete overhaul to make the exact same ball, then added $10 to the price.

Can someone confirm this?
