Prices on new prov1

Now we know how much the legal fees ended up costing Titleist.

 

$5 a doz to Titleist lawyers, $5 a doz to Callaway lawyers.

In Cincinnati, I NEVER saw any ProV1 / ProV1x over $50 at anytime unless I was buying at a course (and I wasn't).

 

Around here they were usually around $45 or less.

Okay, just to add fuel to the fire on this issue, the Pro V1 and Pro V1x are only $36 a dozen wholesale cost. So at $54.99 the retailers would be making ver near 100% mark up ($28 profit a dozen)!! I guess I count my luck stars that I can buy them at the $36 a dozen plus tax from a friend who brings them into the shop at our local course.

Here's the bottom line:

 

We as consumers have a choice how/where we spend our hard earned money. If the price is too high, then don't buy it. I wouldn't buy them if they were $40 a dozen because I've found a couple of better options for ME.

 

If consumers don't pay the asking price, then the price WILL come down.

Titleist doesn't care if the retailer charges MORE than the MAP. It happens all the time with limited edition Scotty Cameron putters and the latest Vokey special edition wedges.

That is actually a little less than $19 a dozen, not $28... Regardless I don't agree with that massive of a price hike, but it's Titleist... so I can't say I am really that surprised, people will still buy them, not as many people but Titleist will still get there's in the end I am sure. Glad I love my Bridgestone's so much though!

My ProV1's are all free... I find them in the woods all the time.

 

I could just see it now- hitting that $10 ProV1 straight down the fairway... someone runs out of the woods, snatches it up, and runs off....

 

Mine as well stick to the $1 Noodle.

They have raised the price of the ball, both MSRP and MAP, for three reasons:

(1) To recoup the cost of modifying the engineering and manufacturing/production costs associated with the mandate of the lawsuit; (2) to recoup legal fees from the law suit; and, (3) because they can -- people will still buy the balls.

I don't know why everyone is getting so bent. If you look back the last years MSRP it was $58.00 and selling price was $45.00 and on Titleist web site the new 2009 ball is showing MSRP $58.00 and MAP $45.99.

I knew it would happen. They finally had to bite the bullet and start charging for the addition of that chemical that makes the ProV1 turn off beige after a couple holes. It was too good to last.

I don't plan on paying more than $40/dozen on any golf ball in the near future. I am sticking with my B330. Especially when GPP and others have sales on it for $30/dozen every now and then.

come to canada. i have never seen pro v1 here for less than $50 /dozen. ever. if you guys think you are getting scammed come live in canada and buy golf equipment. you will then have more reason to complain. even when the dollar was at par we were still getting scammed.

I've heard that the balls are going to cost the same as the prov1's out now! The production cost will be more but the sales price should stay the same.

You can re-sell a driver and at least get back a portion of the price you paid. It's quite hard selling a lost ball that cost $5 or $6.

Yea I know and i love it because I walk the course and find other peoples lost golf balls, i give away the "other" balls but keep the prov1's and prov1x's, just in the last two days I have found about 15 AAAA pro v's that I will be playing when the weather breaks! My wife laughs at me for picking up golf balls but I tell her it's hunting "easter eggs" for adults!! :cheesy:

$36 dollars at cost is a mark up of roughly 35% if the ball costs 55.00...

golftown tells me the max is 15% and as low as 5% on higher end balls.

bottom line is they will go down in a year or 2...lol....and with the updated technology they might be as good as an 08 b330s by 2010 or 2011....

raped in the butt if you pay retail for these.

They're a very nice alternative.

 

Great control into the greens. I picked up a half club with my irons too.

 

Don't limit yourself to Bridgestone though, I'd try a few others. TM LDP, new Srixon Z-Star, Tour i/iX. They're all comparable, but you might find you prefer one over another.

I'll let you know when you give me some new information. Everyone knows retailers can set their own prices (to some degree). Just bc one online retailer (that frequently has sales) puts them for sale at a higher price (before anyone else even has them for sale) doesn't mean that will be the price. I am not talking about the OP. It has been posted, and most with common sense realize, the price at most retailers will be the MAP of 45.99 which is .99 more than the old ones. That has been posted in here and people are still whining about the list price and gpp's price.
