are these shafts to be butt trimed or tip trimed? going to pull the trigger on a set and want to know what is the proper way to install?

Just bought a set off e-bay for 199.99 the cheapest I have seen them yet.

I have played S300 for 20 years. Today I was given a set of Tommy Armour V25 Blades (new, never hit) with True Temper X1 Tour Concepts. I have the biggest smile on my face after hitting these shafts. At first I was a little hesitanat being X1, however I have never swung easier, and felt that smooth kick right before impact which just feels soooo right. The dispersion is unreal, I have complelely lost the I have to work at it feeling that I had with DG S300. Shots I thought were draws going left were tracking barely, slightly left of my intended line. DG feel dead to me, these truly feel alive! I am about a 105 mph SS with driver. Do not be scared of the X1 if you are a smooth swinger, these shafts are butter!

I just got fitted yesterday for some miura blades w/ tc shafts. My previous set of MP-32 had DG S-300. Can't wait to play the TC shafts. The interesting point my clubfitter made was that stiffness doesn't always equate to fast swing speeds. I have a 109 SS w/5-iron and 123 ss with my driver and my cpm chart had me at just under 6.0 for frequency, which is still stiff.

He was then nice enough to mock up a club with x100 TC and frequency test those and turns out they are only a bit stiffer than DG s300.

The only bummer is that the satin was an upcharge, the chrome was the stock shaft my clubfitter was using.

(Below is a review I just posted of my irons, but it includes my impressions of the Tour Concept shafts so I am also posting the review here).

After playing with my Ping I-3 Oversize for about 10 years, decided to try something new. Hit Callaway, Mizuno, Taylor Made and Cleveland's latest iron offerings, but just preferred the feel and look of the G10 and Raptures. After a lengthy outdoor fitting process with launch monitors, shaft monitors, etc., my club fitter and I quickly found that I hit the Raptures way too high with spin rates on a 6 iron in the 8,500 rpm range. I naturally hit the ball very high and as such the Rapture was definitely not a good match for me. I ballooned it. The G10 was a much better fit for my swing so the decision was a no-brainer, although I really enjoyed the feel of the titanium faced Rapture, but the G10's feel great as well.

Next came the shaft choice. After doing quite a bit of online research, I told my fitter that I wanted to try True Temper Tour Concept and Black Gold shafts, as well as Project X. Unfortunately, those shafts were not available with a G10 head to demo with my club fitter, but miraculously, the fitter had all 3 of those shafts with identical Mizuno T-Zoid heads. After hitting all 3, I really liked them all. Each just had a different feel. I ended up preferring the Tour Concepts and especially like that they are a heavier constant weight shaft that are also flighted. I believe that the Tour Concepts are the only constant weight, flighted shafts available, but I could be wrong. I have a very "handsy" swing- I release my hands late in the down swing. As such, I strongly preferred the heavier Tour Concept shafts over the lighter AWT and Z-Z65 shafts in the Ping G10 demos, since the heavier weight better allows me to know when to release the club. The feel of the Tour Concept shafts are simply amazing to me. They almost have a graphite-like feel, but have a very tight dispersion pattern and they are extremely consistent. My club fitter ordered the clubs through the Ping WRX department, so Ping installed the Tour Concept shafts (as a side note, not many manufacturers have the Tour Concepts as a custom option, Ping WRX carries the Project X, Nippon as well, but don't carry the Black Gold). Ping WRX also strenghthened the lofts by 2 degrees on all clubs. I ended up with an S3 (stiff) flex with +1/4" length. The Tour Concept is pricey, but worth it, especially in view of the fact that I tend to keep my irons for a long time.

I also ended up ordering Ping Tour-W wedges (52, 56, 60) with the Tour Concept shafts in Black Nickel finish on a subsequent visit to my club fitter. My initial impressions after only 2 rounds is very positive (my old set were Ping M/B wedges, which I liked as well). I will be posting a review of the Tour-W's once I have more rounds with them.

Not sure what others paid, but I only paid a $21 per club upcharge over the cost of Ping's standard steel shaft (this charge included installation of the shaft by Ping's WRX department). Frankly, I think my golf shop under charged me by quite a bit. Retail on this shaft from an authorized True Temper Concept Dealer is about $60.

I have seen others mention on Golf WRX that when they called Ping, they were told that the Tour Concept was a $37 upcharge over Ping's standard steel shaft.

Since this shaft is so pricey, I don't think any manufacturer offers the Tour Concept shaft as standard on any iron sets. The only manufacturer I know of that offers it as a custom option installed by the manufacturer is Ping, but I have not checked many other manufacturers.

:drinks: The overall butt diameter is not noticeably different on the TC's from the Dynamic golds, however, if you take the grips off you ill notice that the TC's have long butt sections before the steps begin. This produces the feeling of a larger grip b/c the grip under the right hand (for right handed golfers) IS larger. Dynamic golds have a very aggressive taper rate in the butt so they generally feel smaller in the hands. Hope this helps.
