Golfing in Michigan in mid May?

anybody have feedback..

We are planning a golf trip for May of this year to Forest Dunes (maybe) and a couple of them experienced SNOW in the northern section of Mich. anybody have ideas on this or opinions!

Depends on when in May. Early, might be a bit cold due to a typical midwestern spring. But, late May you'll be fine. The trip that we normally take to MI is always over Memorial Day weekend, and the weather has near perfect every time. Mid 60s, sunny.. you know, golf weather.

OK, the weather should be fine. Its not impossible for snow, but very unlikely.

As youve probably seen in the other posts, Forest Dunes is pretty great. Amazing conditions. And of course you should combo it with Red Hawk, The Gailes, Blackshire to the east, or The Dream and Nightmare about 20 mins south.

Mid May is iffy, I played last year in the second week of May at Arcadia Bluffs, (a little bit farther west on the coast of Lake Michigan) and the temperature was 30 degrees with hail. That was awful. It could however be in the upper 60's lower 70's by then too. It's really a crapshoot. If it were up to me though I'd totally do it.

We play Treetops the Tues-Friday after Memorial day every year.

Last year we wore shorts all week.

Other years have been 30* and windy.

Kind of a crap shoot.

Like others have said, it's a bit of a crapshoot. I go to Northern Michigan for an outing every year the weekend before Memorial Day weekend, and there have been years when it has been in the 30's, and years when it's been in the 70's and sunny all weekend. In the 20 years that this outing has been held, it has snowed once, so you're unlikely to be snowed out. In the ten years, I've attended, we have played a couple of rounds is really nasty conditions, but we've never not completed a round or had one canceled.

The historical average temperature in May for that area is in the mid to high 60s.

I live in Interlochen and we always consider May/June the best. The days are long and usually not too hot. Of course you can get some cool days, and I have seen frost delays, but that's not typical. The courses are easier for us locals to get on without all the tourists, ;-)

Bring a sweater and a windshirt.

Yeah, it's a crapshoot, but I've been playing off and on since mid March.

BTW, Forest Dunes opens May 1st. Check out the deal on Mondays and Tuesdays, It's just over $300.00 per person and includes golf both days, breakfast and dinner both days, and lodging in one of the on site 1800 sf. to 2500 sf. houses.

Been going to Cadillac, MI every year the last of May or the first weekend in June for the last ten years. Buddy of mine has a cabin outside of Cadillac and we go to all the area courses and play for 4-5 days. Have seen it in the 80's during that time and I have seen it snowing. The last 2-3 years it has been mild 50-60s but rain. I would suggest an umbrella and a rain suit to go with the sweatshirts and wind breakers! Absolutely love the courses in and around the Manistee National Forest. Courses are beautiful and not crowded at all. We got a deal one day that was $45 for unlimited golf and a free pizza at the turn. We played 54 holes that day and got more than our money's worth!!
