NEW Tourstage ViQ Forged Irons

I saw the Tourstage ViQ forged irons in Ai Miyazato's bag this past week and loved the looks of them. After doing a little research and consultation with my Tourstage nut friends "MrParr1Noid" and "Beruo", I decided to pick up a set to try. I figured if Ai could smack the heck out of them they would be more then good enough for me.

I compared it to the Mizuno MP 60's and X Blade CB's and found that the heads are very close in size. Maybe a tad longer heel to toe in the ViQ. The sole is thicker in the ViQ's but the rear edge is beveled out so the thickness looks slimmer. There are tungsten weights at the heel and toe. After speaking to my Tourstage rep, he told me that the X Blade CB and the ViQ were very similar in play but that the ViQ was just so much more simpler to hit. The added sole, offset and tungsten weights made the sweet spot much bigger and more forgiving. He also said that is actually fit right in between the Z101/Z102 and the X Blade CB's. Not too forgiving but also not too hard to hit.

Those irons really do look good, you won't be dissappointed in the least bit. The first thing you ought to do is go to Wally World and buy yourself half a dozen new large white towels to wipe them baby's down after each shot.

Hey Pitbull,

Very nice looking irons... now why wasn't there a set of those lying around at a certain shop when I was in Hawaii? I've been debating about the ViQ forged vs X-Blade CB-2 vs Gauge and... I can't make up my mind:-)

 

I hope they work out well, and let us know what you think after you've had them for a bit longer.

Nice looking set. Which shop carries tourstage in Hawaii? I'll be there on Oahu in May, and may just have to go check these out, and possibly pick up a set. Can't wait to hear a quick review on em when you've had a chance to play them for a bit.

Jiss offizzsilliass, don't take that from no body. My thoughts are TourStage Bridgestone is heading for the top of the heap this year, they have some nice cheet. :vava: The set of TS Z-101's I bought yesterday have an old set of shafts I've never heard of, something like Proj X 6.5's or something like that. .

 

Only thing that chaps my bunns is Reid get's the new irons (V1Q's, and I'm still collecting hand-me-downs. :)

Per the Rep, the ViQ fits right in between the Z101's and the X Blade CB. He said it's a players club with forgiveness vs just a forgiving club.

Since we've been drenched by torrential downpours that included flash floods for the past week, I've only been able to get one round in so far with the ViQ's. It was a very good round though to give me a general idea of how they play.

 

I don't think these irons are forgiving enough for a 25 handicap. They have a sort of odd set up where the widest sole is on the PW while it thins out towards the 3 iron. Usually you'll find that the game improvement irons set up with either uniform sole widths or the low numbers have the thickest sole and thins down towards the high numbers. The ViQ's really set up more like blades or players cavity backs like Titleist 690.cb's. They also play more like blades where you do have to put a good swing on the club and get good contact to make them go anywhere. Definitely not more traditional game improvement sets.

 

I'd suggest if you're looking at getting Tourstage irons, try the Z101 set before these ViQ's. Even my Tourstage Rep said he would only suggest the ViQ's to a 1-15 handicap.

I just check TSG's website and no mention of these irons. Hopefully they will be picking up the line soon, they are great looking.

Oops, guess I won't be finding them anywhere. I did find the current version of this iron and it has morphed into a horrid-looking SGI iron.
