Hi All: I have a question for you and that is have you tried or purchased new equipment only to revert back to your old clubs?. I recently purchased a set of TM burner irons only to re sell them and go back to my Ping Eye 2's. I'm funny in a sense that the new clubs out seem to be not appealing to the eye to many nuts and bolts and wings hanging off them. Also I didn't seem to play any better but then maybe it's the 8" between my ears. :D

Yeah. I got a lot of clubs, most of which I have bought on eBay to fill my collection of Hogan, Wilson Staff, and MacGregor blades. What am I playing? Cobra Baffler Blades today. Sometimes recently MacGregor 1025C's. I have newer irons. I have more expensive irons (new or used market). And I have irons that I like better at address and while swinging. But I tend to come back to the old tried and true. But, by golly, some day I am going to be playing my Hogan blades like a pro. You can quote me when you write my epitaph.

Yep, me too. Purchased several sets including Mizuno, Armour, etc., etc. and ALWAYS go back to the Peerless irons I put together about 15 years ago. And, I'm hitting the ball better now than I was 15 years ago. Of course, I'm also playing much more, now that I'm retired, and spending the winters in South Texas. I'm 45 seconds(by golf cart)from the first tee

I was not always as smart as I am now. About 7-8 years ago, I gave my son my beloved set of Ping Eye 2 irons. I was (and am) an idiot. He needed clubs and I was convinced that new irons (Ping Eye 3+ blades) were the answer. Must have been a pretty dumb question. I tried hitting the new clubs for years and finally gave up. I tried to coerce them away from my son but he just laughs at me. I am beyond grief.

I am now hitting forged stuff so maybe I am better off in the long run. But boy do I miss my old copper colored beauties. Maybe he'll eventually decide that some of the new crap are the answer and give them back. I do give him my copy of "Hot List" every year.

I wanted my old driver back and my son gave me some flack. I explained it to him this

way. Son, I brought you into this world and I can take you out. Playing better then

ever, but I miss him

Mine is a hulk. Placed in state wrestling tournament. Could (and has) twisted me into a pretzel. At my age, that is potentially fatal. I'm waiting for golf equipment marketing (GEM) to do it for me. As we all know, GEM is the most powerful force in the universe.

Ping Eye 2 .... Tough to convince me that those are not the best clubs ever made. Tough to convince me that they are not the best club to play today even. I actually am not playing them because of peer pressure if you can believe that. One day I will grow up and and not give in to peer pressure.

I need to start looking for a couple of new sets of Ping Eye 2's.

It seems like all fathers have given away their best equipment to their sons...At least that way we can buy more for ourselves. :D

I think the real reason most of your guys like those Eye II's? You were 20 years younger when you got them.

My Hogan Apex II's are a bit too much for me but I can still shoot as good with them as with any iron I have. Recently, I have gone back to a set of Tourstage 202's with Loomis Tours in them.

Me? I like the grinds of the newer clubs more than the sharp leading edge grinds of the older ones. My eyes aren't that good, and with that blunted leading edge, my mishits work out moe betta. :bb:

Only a modicum of buyer's remorse when I replaced custom Penick Tours that were flex matched with Callaway X20s in senior flex. The others were WONDERFUL for more than 10 years. These work well and give me just a wee bit more distance, and they were custom fit for lie, length, yada yada yada. Wouldn't have dropped the money had I not been convinced that there was significant improvement. You guys gotta quit club 'horing and get a real club fitting BEFORE you jump from maker to maker. Aside from the expense and frustration of the hype doesn't equal real life, the frustration has got to be mind boggling. All that money would probably have been better invested in lessons with a PGA teaching pro. And yes, I do regret selling my Ping IIs -- they really were sweet.

For me, I try to separate the two versions of the game I play.  If I'm using my modern kit, I'm on full attack trying to make the most of the new statistically proven, "bomb and mop it up with a short iron game".   If I'm out with the old kit, I'm shaping and enjoying the shot making.   I will say the latter has a positive effect on the former.  I always play much better with the new gear when I've been going classic for a few rounds.  The other way around is not as kind.  It usually takes me a few holes to find the tempo needed to get along with the classic woods and long irons.

This is funny.  My Dad and I used to wrestle all the time on the front lawn.  I grew very late and think I was five feet tall and 106lbs in grade 9 when I went to high school (wrestling team lightweight)

When I was 19 and back from my 1st year in university (6'2 and 215) I picked my dad up on a hip throw and tossed him down like a rag doll - and landed on him - cracking three of his ribs ... he gasped / muttered out "this is officially the last time we wrestle".  He was 48, 6'2 and 250 back then in 1987.  Me now at 52, I can appreciate his pain
