Ernie's new putter

I don't know why everyone is trashing the fact taht EE is using an Odyssey. They make great putters, and the fact is, if it is gonna help his game, which obviously it did yesterday, he is gonna stick with it. If someone told me I could take two-three putts off my average by switching from my Cami I would do it. Look at Michael Campbell, didn't he use an old Rossie to win the US Open, or Kenny Perry, who has used the same Odyssey forever (although he may not use it anymore). Those guys could have had a nice 009 or Cameron and CO., but they chose what they thought they would putt best with. Sorry, I love Camerons, but you gotta go with what is gonna make you perform the best.

One of the best stories of a guy buying an odyssey off the rack was Nick Faldo buying a Rossie 2 back in 1996. He would go on and win the Masters in '96 over Norman and win the Nissan in '97...A pro paying for a club in 2006, unheard of. I think if Ernie wins, he will get his money back from Odyssey with interest. Do you think he got a PUD.

I know there's a lot of love for Scotty on this site and we all know that they are works of art as well as putters but comments about EE not being able to win this week because he's using an Odyssey is going a bit far. It's whatever works guys, it's not about name or how rare it is or what it looks like. JUST GET THE BALL IN THE HOLE!!!

Can't help thinking there might be some money changing hands here though. Surely he'd have changed the bright red Odyssey grip?

P.S I think Todd Hamilton bought his B60 out of a bargain bin at some pro shop in Thailand and went on to win the Open with it!

Why does everyone care about this? Unless you are in line to get his old putter!

I get the impression that everyone is more shocked that Ernie does not use the custom Cameron they lust after and would sell their left n*t for, and he gets the run of the mill, working man's putter.

At the level he is at, the custom Cameron is just another putter he can get. Kind of like us walking into Golf Galaxy and picking up a club off the shelf.

The full story her gave in the interview was that a friend picked it up in a pro shop (as mentioned above) ... Ernie was messing around with it on the greens and really liked the look and Feel.

At the last minute he decided to give it a try and swaped out the SC for it ... seems to have been a good choice for him

No $$ were exchanged up front for him playing this...but ya, you never know what it could lead to (although I'm sure that is when titleist would have to step in...playing it is one thing, endorsing it is another)

Couldn't agree more, just what I wanted to say! :ok:

Scotty Cameron is a clever man. The brand SC is more like a lifestyle than any other brand on the market. Offcourse, they built that lifestyle on great putters but I'm affraid a lot off people forget about the goal of a putter and get lost in the fairytale lifestyle called SC with all the exclusive headcovers and special putters  etc.

In reallity, how much better is a SC in comparison to another top brand??? Does it save you multiple puts per round? Do you never miss a short one anymore? Do you never make any threeputts no more?

Just food for thought...

I absolutely love the fact that EE's purchased this putter at a pro shop. He said he and a buddy were in the shop and he picked it up and just liked the feel of it and had to wrestle it away from his friend. There is just something cool about that. Thats something me and my buddies would do. He could have anyone custom make any putter for him in 24hrs if he really wanted. It speaks a lot of a pro who doesn't think that he is to good or to high and mighty to pay for a club. I gained alot of respect for Ernie for that.

I'm loving this thread! Good for Ernie on finding something that suits "his" eye and gives him confidence to stroke the ball.

While I own a Scotty it's more because of the parameters I had set for the "next" putter I was to buy.

* Half hosel offset

* Center shafted or very close to it

* Blade style (didn't want another mallet)

I walk into a 2nd Swing golf and I find the Bulls Eye Pro Platinum Flange.

Search over...

It's OK guys...your Cameron collections' won't lose their value!

Still funny...

Wow. I, like some others (thankfully), can't believe how upset some of you are. So Ernie's personal identity isn't tied to what brand of putter he's using. Not a bad way to go through life. Try it sometime. :drinks:

On the other hand, this IS surprising to me. In the latest issue of Golf Digest there's a little article where EE talks about how he was just at the studio and Cameron helped him with his stance/posture and he felt he was putting better. Weird time to switch putters, but good for him.
