My TP Red LDP Experience

WOW!!!
First off let me say that I am a pretty loyal Prov!x user over the last several years, but with the new 2/$55 TP deal and hearing so many good things about the TP balls--I went out today to try the TP Red and Black LDP models. For a little background--my driver ss is around 107-110 with normal carry/total with the driver is 260/275 with an occasional 285+ buster. 7 iron is 165. I do suffer with too much spin off the tee ball and have a nice mid-high launch.

Grabbed a sleeve of the TP black and TP reds and went to the putting green and chipped--as others have noted the TP red is definatley softer feeling off the putter than the black, eventhough the red is supposed to be the lower spin ball--a little ironic, but a definate plus. Chips felt nice and smooth, but def have to play for the release, but pretty similar to the V1x, so no big adjustment for me.

Off to the first tee---Par 5 505 yds--nice smoothie and holy sh*t! Got down there and never been there before---192 out--smooth 5 iron and 2 putt bird!! Sweet! Next hole--smoothie--285 and so on and so on. Even on one short par 5 (480) had 155---yes 155! Have once again never been there in 10+ yrs! Mentally it was hard to me adjust to the yardages even off irons---188 out and flew the green with a 5 iron and 148 hit a smooth pw to pin high--wtf!! Feel off the putter may be a tad bit better than the V1x if not dead even. NEVER EVEN HIT THE TP BLACK, the RED was just TOO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!

SPIN--as for spin--I but a pretty good amount of spin on short irons/wedges. I cant play a reg V1 cause I spin it back 10+ feet evertime, and eventhough it may "look" cool--I am always saying, "damn if my ball had stopped where it hit it would be perfect!" The TPRed was just what I wanted. I would say the Red's spin just a tad less than the V1x, but still plenty of check.

As stated earlier--I have been a long time Titleist player and looking down at the TaylorMade ball is a little wierd, but is very easy to overcome when it is smoked down the pipe--this ball to me is an easy 5-10+yds longer than the V1x and others. Great solid flight in the wind and trajectory is very strong. Give them a try-- :man_in_love:

Really like the TP Red. I've been playing it since late last year, with some Srixons in between. For me the TP Red is a no brainer at $27 for a dozen!

You ever play the Tour i? I'm about to embark on comparing the TP Red LDP against it.

thanks

Funny you should mention it--I had a sleeve of tour i to try out--but after putting with it I knew I would not like it. The i is to be the softer of the cally balls, but it is tooo clicky for me and I use non-insert putters. The red's feel off the putter is really nice. The TP black also feels nice off the putter--but the RED is better. Did I mention this ball is like firing a cannon. Will have to do some re-calibrations on my iron distances now!!

I seem to play the TP Blacks better, but that is just me. But, comparing the Pro-Vs to the TM TPs, I might have to give the edge to the TM. ESP. when you factor in price. I just grabbed 3 dozen at $19.99 a piece from that 1 day deal at gppgolf.com.

Actually... they are still that price...

The Wal-Marts here in SC have them for $27.50 per dozen. Picked me up some the other night.

I am also here in Colatown--are the walmart TPs for $27.50 have the LDP or are they the older version? Which Walmart did you go to and did they red and black? Thx for the heads up

Is this with the TP w/ LDP or the older models. I am under the impression that the TP Red is to be lowerspinning in the LDP model--however, the first generartion of the TP balls was just the opposite--confusing!

Those have to be numbers with the older style ball. TM flipped it around for some reason. The LDP Black should generate more spin than the LDP Red.

However, having played the older style ball, the OLD Red seemed to spin MORE than the LDP Black. I don't notice as much of a difference between the LDP Black and LDP Red. Versus, with Pro-V1 vs. Pro-V1x, I really notice a difference, ESP. off the tee.

I'd say the best ball for me off the TEE is the LDP Red, then Pro-V1x.

I'd say the best ball around the greens is the Pro-V1, then LDP Black.

Just my take since I have been playing ALL 4 balls over the past 2 seasons.

I am not in SC, but I have been to a couple Walmarts in PA and DE. They all have this promotion running. They are the new version, LDP.

There's like 3 threads going on at the same time regarding ball spin. Someone posted the GD ball test (above). It's pretty shocking to see how similar these balls test out.

For example, the LDP Red and LDP Black appear to be about 50-75 RPMs apart in driver spin, and about 0.5* in launch angle. To me, the launch angle number is much more of a factor than 50 RPMs of spin. Basically, it boils down to how "high" do you want to hit it.

With a wedge, same thing. Same spin, different launch angle, but only a 1-1.5* of launch.

I've played both and really don't notice a HUGE difference. I would say the Black plays higher, but really hard for me to say if it spins more.

That price is fantastic, but FYI for anyone else that might be interested: shipping was $9.99 for a dozen golf balls, at least to my neck of the woods (Illinois). So basically the Walmart deal is about the same, plus you get some instant gratification......

Not sure if they combine shipping though. If that's the case, then obviously the gppgolf deal stands out if you're ordering more than a dozen.

The $9.99 shipping is good for multiple dozens. I just ordered 4 (3 blacks and 1 red) and paid $90 out the door. What a great deal.

Thanks for the info--grabbed a dozen just now over at Bush River Rd--only 2 doz of the red's left--plenty of blacks available. That is just a crazy price!! All the local golf stores are 2/$55 or 1 box for $39.99. Wonder if the TM guys know WalMart is doing that--then again, WalMart can pretty much do whatever the hell they want!!!

does anyone know why taylormade began this huge sale on their TP balls?

going from $40 a dozen to $27.50 seems pretty dramatic..

thanks

I was thinking the same thing---they must really want to get their products out there to take a dent out of the Titleist market. Titleist is probably loving it--still selling the V1's for $45 and lovin it. :king:

Picked up a dozen of the TP Reds at Walmart for $27.50 and noticed they are the "tournament edition" which I understand is conforming. However, the balls I played with yesterday were the "hot" ones as I compared the side stamp. Hopefully there is not much difference between the two. Anyone played both and notice any major difference in length, spin, etc.... I knew that ball was LOOONNNNGGG for some reasons cause I was in parts unkown several times yesterday :man_in_love: :man_in_love:
