I won't be pulling for Reteif anymore

There is a local golf radio show I listen to and today a guy called in that works the Masters. Augusta National needs extra help during tournament week and uses green superintendents and assistants from the area. The guy that called said they cut fairways twice a day and they were on 15 late on Tuesday afternoon last year. Reteif was one of the last players on the course and he was on 15 teebox when they were on the fairway. He said that while they were out there Reteif hit a drive over the mowers heads. He then went to the teebox to ask him to hold on for 1 minute and they would be finished. Reteif said he had a right to practice and proceded to tee another one up and hit over them again. I used to like Reteif, but this is not the kind of person I will pull for.

My experience with Retief was not a favorable one. He is definitely no fan friendly. After that encounter, I root harder for Ernie, Tim Clark, and even Rory. I think Rory is very misunderstood.

Have you had a big project at work and gotten short with the lady who hands you your coffee in the morning? The difference is, that when you do, 15 people don't go running to newspapers and raido shows to talk about it.

 

We're not all perfect people, perhaps Retief had a bad day, or was a little stressed about his driving and wanted to get in some extra practice.

 

Besides, the greenskeepers should be used to this kind of thing . . . and at my club, when a golfer steps up on the tee, mowers get off thte fairway for the 30 seconds when a golfer hits . . . couldn't they have done that? The grass isn't going anywhere, but daylight is. On top of that, no harm no foul, it's not like he plunked one of them on the head and laughed as he walked by.

 

This story was enough for you to lose respect for Retief? That's pretty tough.

I'm afraid stories like this remind me of other sites, with their mob mentality, lack of reason, and not being rational, but merely jump to the first conclussion that you hear or the first thing that you come by, and then expect us to believe it.

 

What you are saying may be true, but you had better be closer to the source and have more influencing arguements, and so far you haven't given us either.

No, LOL. Those two guys must have been hallucinating. I thought there would have been a BIG deal made about Tiger playing Titleist, so I had my doubts about that. But this guy sounded like he was giving the straight scoop. Then in the pick the Masters winner and score contest this radio show has, he picks Reteif and 9 under. After being hit into by him. Go figure.

Being an athlete can be harsh. If a guy signs four hundred autographs and one guy doesn't get one it's like the athlete committed murder. Then you have the guy that says the athlete was rude to him when he asked for an autograph...and the athlete was sitting down for dinner. I would not want to live under such scrutiny.

I don't think that would be very safe to hit over the mowers unless they were aware somone was teeing it up at the box.

 

In most of the courses I have played, when the greenskeepers are on the fairways working and I come to tee off I would at least wait until they see me... usually they ride off to the side.

 

I don't think that the golfer should have to wait on mower to mow the whole area before he hits... unless maybe there was some sort of sign on the tee.

I think people will get tired of coming to read posts on these sites if members are always criticising thier posts. Not to be the bad guy, but I see that allot and it is sorta sad.

Hogwash, the original poster was stating that he believe the source and therefore wasn't going to root, cheer, or respect Retief G anymore. I don't think I read this in the post, I believe in the title he said he wasn't going to be pulling for Retief. This is exactly what I mean... people take things out of context, again it's sad. I agree forums are meant to converse between each other but not be hypocritical. How can you prove that the radio caller was full of it? I won't be posting on this again sorry I can be one sided as everyone else can be as well.

reminds me of the story my third cousins dogwashers newphew who knew someone who bumped into phil mickelson who said he personally saw second hand that phil likes to knock ice cream cones out of little kids hands and laughs while doing it.

 

you might have one opinion of retief but i hold another, i personally like the guy and his game...not to mention the two U.S. opens hes won.

when i go out really early, the fairways are usually being cut. the guy wears a hard hat, just like he should. anyway, do ya really think if it were a member on the tee they would be happy about waiting for the fairways to be cut. i really think that most of us would be irritated waiting, so no one should get on the high horse.

I don't know how any of you can judge these guys. We don't even know them, and who they are, so i suggest the judgements stop becuase we don't get to see them at the thankgiving dinner table, or at the Caribou down the street. He's a fine golfer and should be praised for his golf not speculation on his personality, because that is all it is with these guys, speculation.

Mark is entitled to his opinion, but geez, if this is the worst thing Retief ever does and now he's not supporting him just for that reason, then personally I think that's a bit shallow. I wonder if he still roots for JD after his little incident at Peter Jacobsen's event several years ago when he turned arund at the driving rnage and blasted a drive over the heads of hundreds of spectators from point blank range?
