My game has tanked completely, worst scores in years, maybe decades. Funny thing is I'm driving the ball well with the Fly Z and Speeder, easily some of the best driving in my golfing life thus far. But then I have the yips from everything from the fairway in. I have lost the ability to get the ball in the hole after that. Anyways, I think the almost-season ending WITB is as follows:

Cobra Fly Z 9.5*, Fujikura Speeder TS 6.2 X

Callaway BBA 816 16*, Accra CS1 80 M5 (got enough alphanumerics here?)

Adams A12 19*, Diamana Thump X

TM UDI 23*, KBS C-Taper Lite S

Cobra Fly Z+ 5-PW, KBS Tour 125 S+

Vokey 250.08, 254.10, DG S400

Callaway PM Grind 60*, KBS Tour V

Ping 1966 TR Anser 2

Pretty sure there's no brand OCD here... 6 club manufacturers, 5 shaft brands, 5 grip brands (Lamkin, GP, Tacki Mac, Ping, and some unknown on the 816). Oh yeah, and Srixon and Wilson balls mainly.

funny when the game goes sour, what will make its way into the bag

I gave up on it this summer after a really decent year

ill be back someday, but for now a couple rounds here and there w my son might be it

I lost interest in being serious out there always trying to put up a score

WITB and course pics look great as always my man!

Partial WITB, walked 9, left some clubs in the car. The 816 is really nice but I'm hitting it high, even with the weight forward. Guess I need to turn the loft down to 15*.

And yes, I meant to take out my 5- and 7-irons but screwed up and took the 5- and 6-irons instead.

Have you tried the 815 16* before? If so, how does it compare?

I was planning to get a 816 but got a ridiculous deal on a 815.

I didn't like much of the 815 line at all. The drivers were especially terrible. I can't comment on the 815 vs 816 FW differences or similarities unfortunately.

All I know is I'm hitting this 816 long and straight, just high. Really like the look and feel too.

Been gone for a bit, needed a break after some awful golf in November.

I rolled a few putts with a putter I've owned for over 25 years. Feels pretty good with the regrip, but even with 3 layers of tape it's still pretty thin, so I might swap in a midsize PP58 instead.

I just moved up to the DC area in August and really haven't played much golf nor know where to go. I hit golf balls at Potomac Shores one afternoon (for $26 which was highway robbery) but it looks like an awesome course. I am in the Arlington area but I am looking for places to tee it up.

Potomac Shores is pricey, but weekday prices are decent for the conditions, tee time availability, and pace of play (except the long drives between holes). They also have great good and beer at the grill.

I could go into commentary on all the courses, but I'll highlight some in Northern VA and MD that you could probably check out, depending on time of day and what you are trying to accomplish.

Twin Lakes - good muni for weekday or twilight options with two 18 hole courses, slower greens, Oaks course is challenging, nice range and short game area, very slow weekend rounds

Bull Run - fun design, conditions good but not in late summer, deals on Golfnow don't pay rack rates, good range and short game area, good grill

Laurel Hill - former Publinx host, good conditions and fun design, costly for a muni, good pace of play with 10 min intervals, but tee times fill quickly

Greendale - kind of dumpy, but close to Arlington, cheap quick twilight rounds for practicing

Oak Marr - par 3 course with range and short game area, good iron practice out there

Brambleton - good weekday or twilight round, straight forward and open, solid conditions for the money typically

Westfields - nice Couples design, conditions iffy mostly but winter/spring it's fine, deals on Golfnow don't pay rack rates

University of Maryland - fun old school layout, conditions much improved, good weekday rates, good grill

Blue Mash - challenging design, solid overall but pricey on weekends, good grass range and short game area, good bar

Whiskey Creek - fantastic course and conditions, pricey, far, great grill

Worthington Manor - US Open qualifying host, fun but tough layout, excellent conditions, far

There are other decent Montgomery County courses I'm not familiar with too that might be reachable for you from Arlington.

Whatever you do, stay away from Greendale on the weekends....

Haha, I think that's most public courses in this area.

Always nice to get out to hit some balls in the winter...

How much do I like TW, Free-inspired shoes of recent years? Enough to get new pairs of the FI Premiere and another TW15 to go along with my TW13 and TW15.

I knew the FI Premiere were based on the TW shoes, but I didn't think it would be that similar. See below. FI is bottom/left, TW15 is top/right.

Fresh GP Tour Wrap Cords on my wedges, standard size with 4 extra wraps. Always looking to pick up NOS of these grips. The 200 series are definitely one of the best shaped wedges I've used, although I'm getting my old X-Forged bent to 50 and 55 degs to swap in for the coming months.

I love the 200 series vokey's, I was upset that they only offered the modern CC version in chrome through the vokey site otherwise I would have gone back to a full set of 200's

I liked the heads enough the chrome didn't bother me, but you're right, the original raw 8620, oil can, and black nickel (IIRC) 200 series wedges were great.

I'm usually not one to speculate on my own equipment, but it's a busy week at work and I need to procrastinate, even if only for a little. And this is regardless of how "happy" I think I am with my current clubs.

On the list for 2017:

  • Callaway MD Forged wedges
  • TM MG wedges
  • TM M2 Tour FW
  • Toulon Memphis
  • EVNROLL ER8

Lots of great golf in Pinehurst. Tobacco road is fun but I wouldn't want to play it every day.

We had the same conversation about TR. One of my favorite courses ever, but not for daily or regular rounds.

I live in Arlington. I am sure if you give the guys in the shop at Washington Golf and Country Club (Just off Rock Spring and Glebe Road) they might let you out. http://www.washingtongolfcc.org/ phone number should be on the site.
