Non-Pros Using Staff Bags

Recommended Posts

Anyone else find this funny?
I don't get it. Staff bags are such a PITA. I have two brand new ones that have never and will never see the light of day. I hate them. Why would someone pay all that money for something that is so useless?

I have several staff bags left over from my days as a club pro. If I'm walking I take my Nike Sasquatch stand bag and if I'm riding then I take a staff bag. I prefer the storage for rain gear, cigar humidor, food, etc. If you don't like them, then no problem. But, I prefer them to the "cart bags" that are on the market.

If you're a cart rider, then I see no problem with it. I would never walk a course with one, but to each their own. I like the idea of extra room for cigars! ;)

I would play a staff bag in a heart beat but im a 14-17 handi and i just would feel like a complete ******'. The room in those things are awesome not to mention the club room. I hate using my ping stand bag and having to try to shove my clubs in there. To be honest People should use what they like and not be judged... but we all know thats never going to be the case..

I have a staffer that I use when I go on golf trips.

That way I can have all my golf stuff all in one place. It makes it easier to leave to condo quickly in a hungover state when we oversleep our tee time.

It never fails every year someone gets to the course without shoes, a jacket, rain gear, ect because they left it in the condo.

Lets also not pass over the fact that staff bags are just pimp.

They look cool and I have a few, but I only crack them out when I am at a Pro-am and we are riding. I usually use a carry bag, just because sometimes I walk. They look better when I use them as displays in the Pro Shop.

To each his own, if someone wants to lug that thing around, more power to them. I can fit everything that I "need" even cigars or rain gear in my carry bag.

I hope you are not flying on your golf trips, those extra fees for oversize bags and overweight can be a pain

They are great cart bags and they stand on their own very well... Hell if I was on a cart 100% of time and never had to carry it myself, I'd be all over it. Imagine never having an issue with taking clubs in and out like a stand bag. All the room for GPS, Laser, food, drinks, raingear etc etc.

I have a staff bag that is supplied by Cobra and I only use it at tourny's. It is great for holding raingear, extra towels, etc. However, unless it's a tourny, I'm using the stand bag all the way. It's just so much easier to get around. I have an extra staff bag that is used to hold all my clubs in storage. They are PERFECT for that!

Another thread of why does it matter? As an assistant golf pro you should be happy people are spending money on golf, even more happy if that horrible golfer spent $300 on a staff bag at your shop.

I do agree about the name stitched on the bag part though, that is a little silly for an amateur.[/quote]

I quit using my staff bag because my club does not have a bagroom I hated carrying the big thing from the parking lot to the carts.

As it is I probably will not have another staff bag, but If I do it will definatly have my name on it. I think they look goofy without a name on them.

I miss how easy it is to get clubs in and out of them.

Considering that I usually ride I find anything but a STAFF BAG useless and impractical. I laugh when I see someone with a stand bag strapped onto a cart. I also laugh when they are jamming their clubs in their bag or get caught in the rain with out gear or get thirsty and the course water is empty and they have none. To me it makes more sense to have a staff bag then a pro since they are walking. What difference does it make. I have everything I need in my staff bag. When I use my stand bag I have to downsize and I always seem to need something I left behind.

It's funny you say that about the name on a staff bag. As I stated earlier in the thread, I have several staff bags. All but one has my name on it. I intentionally use the one that doesn't have my name on it. Different strokes I guess.

I have a Callaway Staff bag and a SM Four 5 stand bag. I ALWAYS use the staff bag when riding and have even used it when pushing (flat course). The SM gets used when carrying/pushing.
I like having options and I like staff bags for all the reasons mentioned by other posters.

In my opinion, when people ask why you own a staff bag, I ask them, "Why do people own cadillacs, $200 Ecco shoes, custom made clubs, a 60" TV,etc.,etc... It's what they like.

This has been done to death in an earlier thread I think.

At the end of the day play with / use whatever equipment you like.

I don't understand this trend to slag others off on the basis of what clubs / bags they game.

Now as for white belts...... don't get me started - only joking!!!

I do not have a staff bag, but I'm thinking of getting a used one. I prefer to walk, but the reality is 90% of the time I'm riding these days, and it seems silly not to take advantage of the space and convenience of a larger bag.

I'm impatient by nature and HATE fighting to get clubs in and out of my stand bag (Ogio Grom).

Here's mine. I only take it when I ride. I'm a 2.6 handicap, so I'm not a total hack.
