Courses to play between San Francisco and Cincinnati

Road Trip!

I'm making a road trip anytime from May 7-21 from San Francisco to Cincinnati. Any courses along the way I should play? Cheaper would be better unless it's a must play course. Also, I'm up for rounds with any wrx'ers if you'll have me.

Indianapolis area:

 

The Fort - In the middle of a state park, some great elavation changs.

Purgatory -Links course, have a par 5 from the tips around 730 yds

Since you will be coming through Salt Lake City:

 

Wingpointe at the SLC airport - easy access for you.

Hobble Creek and hour south of SLC and near me - one of my favorites - located in Hobble Creek Canyon east of Springville.

Thanksgiving Point 30 minutes south of SLC - 7728 from the tips and a Johnny Miller design.

 

Let me know when you'll be through and maybe we can work something out.

I go to Cincinnati once every couple of years. We go to an amuesment park every year called Kings Island, and only until my last visit while on a roller coaster did I realize there was a golf course right across the street. The course is actually a Jack Nicklaus design whos rates for 18 holes range from $42 with cart monday through thursday, 50 bucks friday, and a max 60 bucks on the weekends (for the grizzly). The brun which is the other course is alot cheaper. Check out both of them here. I plan on playing there when I make my next trek back there. From what I saw, the courses look pretty good. Only issue you'll have will be the sound of traffic from Rt 71 and the sound of thrillseekers across the interstate.

Starting from the source - I'd say Harding Park is a must play - expensive, but you can see how you stack up to the pros who played there.

How difficult is it to get on as a single? My game may not be down to par :D (cool) that early in the summer...being in grad school 8 months of the year and all

On your way from Indianapolis down 74 to Cincinnati, you could take a little detour off 74 and play Otter Creek, an excellent Robert Trent Jones design that now has another 9. A litttle out of the way, but an excellent track. Once you get closer to Cincinnati, you can head south on 275/Cincinnati beltway down to Belterra Casino in Indiana to play their excellent Fazio design.

 

Lassing Pointe is one of the top notch Northern KY courses, in a region that has a long list of quality golf courses.

 

In Cincinnati, if you're visiting, some places you'll want to consider are Walden Ponds on the north side, Shaker Run (site of last years USGA Public Links Championship). The City of Blue Ash (near north side) has a gem of a course, a fairly tight winding track that has some housing in the area but requires solid shotmaking to score. There are some quality golf courses on the east side as well. The Vineyard is a wonderful course, as is Elks Run (way out east) and there's another new course on the East side that's gotten great reviews, but the name escapes me. It was one of those "top new public course" honorees..maybe Golf Digest last year or two.

 

If you could make a connection and get on to play Maketwah, a classic old private course on the very near north side, you'd be doing yourself a favor. They hold US Open qualifying there every year.

 

Of course, there's the TPC up by Kings Island, a private course, but accessible via corporate contacts.

This thread is entirely obsolete but your comment is ironic because I'll be playing my US Am qualifier at Camargo (I've not actually played there though).

This thread is relevant to my interests right now. I will be traveling from Cincinnati to Wyoming, then from Phoenix to Cincinnati. I plan on doing the following courses

 

Outbound:

Indiana - Fort Course

Illinois - WeaverRidge

Iowa - Harvester

Nebraska - Wild Horse

 

Inbound:

Phoenix - We-ko-pa, The Boulders

NM - Black Mesa, Pa-ko Ridge

MO - Branson Creek

 

Anyone have any other suggestions on possible courses?
