983K vs. TM R540XD TP

Differences?

Hey all,

Currently hitting my 983K very well. Have a 9.5* w/stock Speeder. Lovely club to hit straight and draw. I hit my longest drive with it yesterday. Had a decent wind with me and poked it between 365-and 370!

i am eyeing an R540XD TP w/8.5* and Fujikura Proto 70 "S" shaft.

How much difference is there between the heads and shafts?

those are 2 similar and nice drivers,

i don't think you should expect much difference,

but IMO, 540xd tp should be a bit more forgiving, and probably allow you to work the ball easier...

and as in shaft,

i have no clue how the Fuji proto 70 plays, but for sure it seems a bit lighter than titleist speeder shaft,

so overall it should be very similar

I actually own both of them. I have the 983K in a 10.5 with a NV and the 540XD in a 8.5 with a NVS.

The 540 sits fairly square. The 983 is very closed. For whatever reason my misses with 983 tend to be high fades. The 540 tends to miss low draws.

Forgiveness wise, I think the 540 wins. If you happen to stike it slightly unpure you might loose a couple of yards but it will stay fairly close to straight. The 983 will keep the distance on miss its but punishing you with direction.

Now in my case... I had the 983K and was hitting it way to high. I carry it to 250 with absolutely no roll. I tried putting the nv in to lower it, but it didn't help enough. Then I got the 540 to help to lower it and it did but too much. I hit line drives with it. After the roll they end up about the same. So I guess I'm still on the look for the perfect driver.

I agree with phillypete. I had a 9.5* 983K with Grafalloy Prolite 35 and forgivenesswise it wasn't great at all. My misses with it were very high slices despite the draw bias.

hmmm... it seems everytime I demo a TM club there is one less Titleist club in my bag... I hit the y cutters the other and really liked them.... the Vokeys may be in trouble! At least there is one Titleist club that won't be leaving any time soon.. my scotty.
