Go get pizza at Joe Bologna's. Best pizza I've ever had. (Also, try the breadsticks. You'll thank me later.)

University Club is public now. Both courses there are good, but Big Blue's the better of the two IMO. The Bull at Boone's Trace is a fun layout. It's about halfway between Lexington & Richmond. Houston Oaks in Paris is also safe bet.

That's a great time of year to be in the Bluegrass State! There's literally no better place than Keeneland in the Spring: horse racing, bourbon, sunshine, blooming dogwoods, bourbon bread pudding, and last but definitely not least...all the girls at UK come out of hibernation. It's really something special. :partytime2:

I'm definitely looking forward to it. I made it up there last year for the Maker's Mile. Keeneland was incredible. The Woodford and Maker's distilleries were pretty cool as well. With the timing last year, we were only able to fit in a quick round while we were near Bardstown. The track we played was okay.

Maywood was pretty solid when we played it. Unfortunately, it was in the 40's that morning. Living in Florida the past few years, my blood has grown a little thin. I think we are going to set up shop in Lexington for most of the trip.

Thanks for the heads up on a pizza joint. While we are at it, any bar recommendations? We'll be staying near Rupp.

SkyBar is within walking distance, Buster's has live music, Baker's 360 is a great restaurant/dance club, and Penguin is a dueling piano bar. If it's warm at night, Cheapside is a good spot.

The Peninsula Golf Resort, Peninsula Course is a Pete Dye course, and its about 18 miles south of Lexinginton. I held the course record there for about 10 min the first day it opened. I shot 71 and we were the second group off. One of the pro's were behind us and came in about ten min after we did, with a score of 70. That was in 1996, I think. The course is about 20 miles south of Lexington.

Sorry I quit the bar scene about 25 years ago, so I have not one clue about that. If u want to know where to park for a UK BB of FB game I can tell you though.

Enjoy yourself and have a great time, Keeneland will be a blast.

I think only one of the courses at the UK CLub is public. At least that is what they said when I called there a few weeks ago.

The Bull is an excellent course. Kearney Hill is fun and a half hour east is Old Silo, which is also excellent.

Born and raised in Lexington, on Greentree Farm and C.V Whitney, home sweet home, but now live in New Mexico. Last course played there was Cambells. Louisville (Lou-a-ville) is close by, try to get into Val.

Be sure to go to Ky State Horse Farm for a visit, it is very close to the airport where you will be landing.

Let me know when you are in town and we can play the Bull (I live here) Cherry Blossom and Houston Oaks!! Old Silo is another very interesting course. I'm all in for a WRX outing anywhere in Kentucky! Also the new Keene Run course is pretty good just been open about a year now. Champions Trace for sure (I think it is private but have played there a few times)

I would stay away from The Bull. Go to Old Silo or Gay Brewer @ Picadome.
Can you tell us why you wouldn't play the bull? I have no vested interested here except I live here, great staff and a good course, not the best in the area but very good. Bunkers and cart paths are bad right now but work is planned for the spring.

Yeah, I disagree about the Bull, especially if you're above a 15 handicap. Other than Griffin Gate, I think the Bull is the best of the easier courses. Regardless, I would not play Picadome if you're only in town for a few days. It's not bad, but there are better options IMO. The only thing notable about Picadome is they probably have the smallest greens in the world for an 18-hole golf course (that's not a par 3 or executive course).

I would be willing to get together for a springtime WRX golf outing. I think it would be interesting.

I used to play the country club in Prestonburg quite a bit, when I was the manager at the old Lowe's store in Matewan WV. I was the Lowe's rep that oversaw all the floodwall work in Willamson WV, and all those house raising's and the 120 some house that were rebuilt. The pro back then was name Luther something (forget his last name). There are 2 youngs guys from that area, that play for Campbellsville University. I play with the Cville U team quite a bit in practice rounds, and on sat and sun, when their season is in.

I would almost think the Lexington area would be the best for all in the state, while not the center of the state, it would give the most choices.

Let's figure out someone besides me, to see what a group cost for tee times would be sometime in the spring.

Hey guy, I'm from Inez!! Played Stonecrest a lot and still get up that way ever now and then, I am trying to get a few guys from here to come up there and will let you know and maybe you can join us! I was a member at Paintsville CC for several years, I never fit in with "the group" but just love to play. Played SC this past summer with another member here (cmusic) as he is from Paintsville.

The pro there was Luther Conley who now owns Cherry Blossom! As far as a spring outing I'm all in, Lexington would be great so we could have some from Ohio and Tenn (or anywhere else) join in!

Hey thanks for the remember on Luther Conley. That was like 19 or 20 years ago when I worked down that way. I have raised a couple of kids since then.

I nominate Blade Man to figure out what kind of price we could get for a group rate. We could do a poll of the club we would like to play, and decide among people that would committ from this area.

So I vote Blade Man. Anyone else have any idea's.

I would be happy to do it, we can put some fillers out and see what everyone thinks, I wouldn't want everyone to go to P Dome just too far from anywhere, Kerney or Houston Oaks or Cherry Blossom or Old Silo, heck I just love to play.
I guess the reason I didn't care for The Bull was because of my poor play and a windy, cold day. The front 9 wasn't bad but a few holes on the back I didn't like, especially 18. If there is a WRK outing there, I would try to make it there but I would rather drive longer to play Old Silo or Picadome.
What's wrong with #18? You just hit a low fade that lands about 20 yards into the rough on the right side (landing just underneath that big ugle tree). Then if you are lucky the ball will take only a moderately hard left bounce and only roll about 5 yards into the rough on the left :man_in_love:

dave

ps. I only played the course once a number of years ago - I still remember that hole. And I liked the course over-all.

I live here and that hole is played so many different ways! Aiming at the tree with a slight draw works like you said or a slight fade will do the same thing..........or ...............just aim at the tree on the left and go for the flat spot in the rough, heck I don't know but I do make quite a few birdies there, I also make a lot of "others" there too!
