Would you put a leather grip on your putter?

Why not?

If that's what you want go for it.

Check out thegripmasterusa.com, they're a sponser here and their leather grips are sweet. Golfwrx members get a discont also.

Dead easy to install, same as a regular grip. Certainly gives a putter a classic look.

I've got one on my current gamer right now. As for pros and cons, so far no cons - i have them on a couple of putters and am thinking of trying them on my irons too. If looked after properly they will last longer than a rubber grip. They have a nice soft tacky feel, so if that sounds good then give them a try.

Well, I've got one on mine right now. The stock grip on the ACIII. I LOVE the tackiness of it (especially since I play without a glove). It is pretty thick and it really tends to dampen vibration a little too much for my tastes.

I've been debating switching it out for a Black cameron or Ping man recently. I think this post just pushed me over the edge.

TMF, how are you cleaning yours? Just a very mild soap and water? I need to clean mine on my ACIII but I am not sure what to use. It is starting to lose it's tackiness where I usually grip it.

'Preesh!

The ONLY thing you need to do is take a clean, wet towel and wipe it down. Then take a dry towel and dry it off. The tackiness will be back in full force. I usually wipe it down before and after every round, and I play at least once a week, close to a year and no loss in tackiness.

Unfortunately I just took mine off ;)

It was just too thick for my small hands. I sadly replaced it with a black studio design today. 7.gif

Slightly off topic, but when I took off the grip, I was prepared to wrestle with the standard acushnet devil incarnate grip tape that takes hours to remove. However, I was plesantly surprised to find that it was a snap. At least now we know where all the good grip tape at Acushnet is going - Scotty.

FYI for those who may not know. The Camerons are Gripmaster leather grips with Cameron logos...

I have leather grips on two putters a 8802 and a Tom Watson Ram Forged Blade. They are ok to use but extreme conditions really wear them out and they don't feel as good. Extreme heat and extreme wet/cold. These are original old school late 70's grips so it could be that they are just old.

I imagine they're just old. The leather gripmaster on my scotty lasted through daily practice in Houston's heat, sun, humidity, and pollution better than any other rubber grip.

I can't speak for other brands and I wouldn't leave them in the car trunk for weeks at a time; however, I've found them to be a VERY durable grip.

I ended up putting 6 GripMaster's grips (5 of them were leather, 1 the synthetic pistol grip), on some of my best putters and cannot see myself ever going back. One of the grips was for the purpose of review--the new oversized/midsized grip that GripMaster has coming out, so I took the opportunity to order a few more. I'll be posting a full review in the next couple days (early next week?), but the nutshell version is that I have definitely become spoiled!

I do think that the niceness of leather might be overkill for some putters. I'll probably just regrip my older Pings with the standard Pingman grip as they are more likely to get sold than to make the bag, but anything that I plan to play will be leather. ;)
