i haven't been on a launch monitor in awhile. i hit a 26* 5 iron 200, though. does anyone know to what swing speed with a driver this 5 iron distance would correlate?

Seriously I hit a five wood straight up about 200 yds sometimes my 3 iron*(hybrid) downwind I might nut a four iron and get it there.

 

 

In 44 years of playing I have never played with anyone that was more than two clubs longer than me.

 

Never played with anyone more than one club longer that could play a lick.

 

 

Believe what you want but if your carrying a six iron 200 yds I would bet the farm you have problems with distance control.

 

Part of controling how far we hit a ball is controling club speed. That is easier to do swinging easy than swinging hard.

i find that kind of hard to believe that youve never played with someone at least 2 clubs longer than you in 44 years. i hit 5 iron 200 (total distance). just yesterday i played with one of my buddies (another lefty) who hits 7/8 iron from my 5 iron distance. ive seen plenty of people that much longer than i am. and its pretty intimidating considering im usually one of the longest in my groups.

i would have to middle a stock 5 iron to get it 200! im 17 and where i play im considered a pretty long hitter. if theres kids my age out there who can hit it 200 with an 8 iron that is monumental. we all know about the finau brothers and how long they are but the media are making a huge song and dance over those 2 and if u lot are saying u know kids who hit it 200 with an 8 why arent they being bigged up?

1) because they are going pro

2) ive never heard of them before so apparently they aren't as big as you may think. im sure there are plenty of other people on this board who havent heard of them, as well.

3) because my buddies that are that long dont have the game they need to have in order to get recognized. they dont practice because they are too busy with school now.

I carry a 6 iron 195 and carry a 5 iron 205 so depending on the conditions but I would feel more comfortable hitting a 6 iron with a little extra on it. This is of course ideal conditions like a flat lie, no wind, and no elevation changes from my current postition to the green.

I am that person. I have only played with a handfull of players that hit it as far as I do, most people I play with I hit my 2 iron as far as their drivers (250 - 260 depending on the firmness of the fairways and of course not severely elevated). It takes work to hit the ball that far, I use a 6lbs troy bar for workouts 6 days a week at 100 reps per day. Almost anyone can be that far (I said almost anyone) with the right training. Why am I not a Tour Pro? Well at one time I had competed in some Nike Tour events, US Open Qualifiers, Q School, etc... but I was not good enough. I can probably compete on some mini tours but I have a few young children and would much rather spend my time with them then practicing all day and competing all week.

Ok thats fair enough i agree with you youve got to have the all round game not just the distance but damn what sort of speeds are these kids generating? anyone know any stats?

i never read this forum, but why assume that people are not being truthful, i mean what is the point, on planet earth the absolute longest hitters on earth the Jason Zubacks of this world hit 400 yards with no help, everyone else needs help, maybe he hits his irons long, if its a question of power the driver is the one to worry about.

Tiger doesn't hit the ball as long as some of the people state on this forum, and its not the he can't. Its because if your swinging that fast generally you aren't going to be nearly accurate enough to shoot real low. Now I'm sure people can gas a 6 iron 200 yards, but can they stick it within 10 feet of the flag consistently like that? I'm also curious why people calculate their Iron distances with roll, don't you want to stop your Iron shots close to where they land (hopefully on the green?)
