What's your 200 yd club

Depending on conditions I've hit my 6 200 and 5 200+, it all depends on if Me or my evil twin shows up.. we have a 200yd par 3 where I hit my 7 over the green with some wind behind me... I also have to say I've had days where I'm just off and I've hit the 5 185 :drinks: it's a frustrating game for me..

call what you like m8, 200 yard 7 iron no probs, i won scottish longdrive this year by a distance, i averaged 380, in 6 months have broken 12drivers, ss measured on zelocity 143.2mph average

 

 

was 2nd in uk longdrive 20000 entries througout the uk, i qualified for that event with 342 yard carry with a wilson killer whale (remember those?) this was 10 years ago, outdrove john daly on sky sports, should i continue?

to the people who say they hit 9-8 irons 200 yards, get a life and stop bullshitting, my 200 yard club would be a hard 6 or smooth 5, with wind I've had my seven end up 200 yards but never flew it that far

60* wedge, bent to 23*, 1/3 swing with my driver, 1/2 swing with my 3-wood, 2/3 swing with my 2-iron, 3/4 swing with my 3-iron, 7/8 with 4 iron. full with 5 iron (smooth, to enable more pure contact), 6-iron back in my stance with a low finish; skull a 7-iron (same for 8, 9 or wedge), or swing like heck at my putter.

I played Friday and a guy in my group had a rental set of Big Bertha irons, and before we got rained out/flipped the golf cart, I had a chance to hit a few.....I belive I could hit a 7 iron 200 with those clubs. I hit a 6 on a 185 par 3 pin high with my set and then for laughs hit his 7 iron and blasted it over the green.

 

Those clubs, coupled with a top flight....the ball would still be going/

I'm hitting my driver farther than ever, but it seems my irons are getting super short. I'm hitting them a little higher, but I still think I'm getting a lot of run.

The number on the sole of teh club means squat. Read my sarcastic reply above about how I could hit any club in the bag that yardage. Obviously, I was joking. However, If someone is pulling out a 9 iron, or an 8 iron or a 7, 6, 5 or whatever, there is a BIG difference on how they hit it. Did they make 'pure' contact with the sweet spot? Did they catch only one groove or two? Hitting thin will go farther. Playing back in your stance will go farther. Hitting off the tee goes farther than off the deck.

 

Also, to those saying people hitting 7 irons are lying....is it so inconceivable to you that there are some big hitter out there? I played with a guiy who pulled a 6-iron from 220, only trying to lay up. He hit it as high as I hit an 8 or 9 iron and the frigging thing landed level with the green (was a dog leg and it went where he aimed as if it went the yardage he was expecting, he would have been dead center of the fairway). He is not the most experienced golfer, so he is still figuring out how far he hits things. I was absolutely astonished how far it went. Had he told me and I did not see it, I would not have believed him. I could say the loft was lower or something (a nice marketing ploy by many manufacturers these days to boost buyers egos) but I saw the trajectory and as I said, it was really high.

 

Just because you cannot hit it that far (nor can I) does not mean others are incapable of it. Do you tell long drive competitors that they are lying about hitting a drive 350-400 yards?

I'm not a long hitter. It's probably a 4 iron for me. a 3 iron if there is wind or the pin in the back.

Plenty of pros hit 7 or 8 in the 200 range. I generally hit a 7. I am 6'2 and 235 and was a baseball palyer for years. I am not a pro by any means but i can swing the club fast. I don't understand why so many people believe average golfers can't hit that far. Pros are pros because they have the accuracy, shotmaking and distance control beyond what most of us can comprehend.

There are dozens of variables such as if you are hitting the sweet spot, if your clubs are right for your swing, etc.

Also, you are only 5'7, when a lot of the real long hitters are 5'11+.

one reason could be because you say youre swing speed is between 100 and 111 so its in the low 100s, the people hitting six irons have swing speeds in the 110+ range for their drives not swinging out of there shoes

200 yrds is kind of an odd distance for me. In average conditions it would be a smooth 5 iron, if I need to draw the ball I'd hit a hard 6, if I need to fade it in there I'll hit a cut 4 iron.
