Private course review

Wedgewood Pines Country Club is located in Stow, MA 45 minutes west of Boston. It's located on 154 acres of woods just outside of town.

As soon as you pull into the driveway, you notice right away that this is going to be a well manicured course. You drive through the middle of the Par 3 17th and up towards a very nice big club house.

The par 71 course tops out at 6,769 yards from the tips. It has a 73.9 rating and 139 slope. The tee boxes, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and greens were absolutely perfect. I was really impressed with the quality of the sand in the bunkers, which fortunately I only found twice.

They do a lot with the course to make each hole interesting considering that only a few of the holes have any water. The 13th hole which is a long par 3 is probably the only hole that is pretty lack luster. The 11th hole was my favorite. It's a long par 4 that offers great risk/reward.

What makes this course a pleasure to play isn't the views, the staff, the clubhouse, or the course design; which are all very good, but the perfect condition that the course was in. I almost wish I was in that perfect sand more often.

I'm looking into joining this club for the 2015 season. Any current or recent members out there? A buddy of mine is joining and says its a good course and nice facilities. A work friend of his is a member.

I was just curious what folks thought of the course and facilities/food. I haven't had a chance to play the course yet but will have a chance once the weather turns.

I haven't played it but others have mentioned that the front 9 was designed with a golf course architect but the owners/builders did the back 9 on their own... and it shows.

I played it quite a few years ago - well before there was a clubhouse - when it was open to the public. From what I can remember I thought it was a decent course and cannot remember any major discrepancy between the nines. Maybe they changed stuff around over the years?

I'd be interested in hearing about it too. I live in Boston and am looking to join somewhere with a decent balance of not too far from the city, solid track in decent shape and an initiation that's not insane. Yes, impossible...I'm aware.
