Help me identify these!

Joe Powell Blades

I just picked this set up. This pic is the 8. I bought them cuz they look pretty new for the age and they ARE pretty...

I've heard of Joe Powell Golf but I was curious if anyone knows anything about this particular iron model.

Sorry, don't know anything about them. But they look pretty nice. Let's bump this up to see if you can get a better reply.

Here is sort of an "After" shot. I'm giving them the once-over. WOW. EVERY swingweight is dead on. Sand wedge is D8 and of course the rest are D3. Also, the shafts appear to have been meticulously crafted onto the heads. It's been fun cleaning them up and re-gripping, etc...

Well, they're Joe Powell, not Jim Powell. He made extremely good persimmon clubs back in the day, but I didn't know he ever made irons. His woods were works of art, finely crafted and finished.

Finally got ahold of Joe Powell Golf. They are called "The Original"... A forged blade with frequency matched shafts.

I will be taking them out for a spin after the "Clean up" I'm giving them....

I think Dottie Pepper (then Mochrie) played them for a few seasons back in the 90's. Can't remember the guys that bagged them though - anyone?

I'm going to regrip them, polish the heads mildly and redo the paintfills. Then I'm going to bag them for awhile. The heads look as nice as anything out there right now....
I think the guy I got them from must not have liked them them and set them up in storage. He gave them to me in the original box. Fun project...

You got a bargain. Joe was one of the key designers (maybe the key designer) in the heyday of MacGregor's persimmon wood business. He was a stickler for detail, that's why the swingweights on your clubs are perfect. He died a while back, but his son John still runs the business. I think they do mainly custom club building now.

After looking at this message and putting two and two together, I have a friend that has them and he is currently gaming them! He is a fairly decent player. and the irons feel great. Good find!
