These bring back great memories...think I will throw a new grip on a couple of my 1969 Staffs ("bullet backs") and see how they hit.

It was 25 or 30 degrees today in Atlanta with strong winds (felt like it) so I will wait a few days.

I have a set of those as well. Do yours have an ultralight shaft?

Yup, beautiful irons. I have a set of 78 Staff tour blades 1-pw and will put them in my bag when I'm play'n well or just for a change. I do enjoy playing those clubs. Not a Mizuno feel, but still very good and very solid.

Those are the old lofts so there should be about a 1 club difference between them and modern lofted iorns. Back then the pw was 50*.

I have a '72 button back 5 iron I picked up last summer in the $5 bin at my home course. Whenever I feel my swing going south, I take it out to the range and after a small bucket of hand stingers I get the groove back. You have to put a good move on these things for sure. It's been the best training tool I have ever had, not to mention the prettiest as well. Gratz on the nice find.

I agree with the other posters that this is most likely a set of the reissues from the mid-80s. Below are photos of the set I sold about 2 years ago on the 'bay for $195. My ferrules are the same as in your photos. If you have a gold band ABOVE the DGS400 band, it is most definitely the reissue. The gold band had the serial number of the commemorative/reissue set. The Swing-Rite half-cords were also the original grips on the reissues.

Old stuff:
1962 Tommy Armour AT2W Driver   1953 Macgregor M65W EOM 3 wood   1978 H&B PowerBilt Citation 4 wood
1984 Ben Hogan Apex PC 2-E   1968 Wilson Dual Wedge
1964 Acushnet O-SET M6S Bullseye Putter

New stuff
Cobra ZL 10.5 driver (Matrix HD6 s-flex)  Titleist TSR2 18* fairway wood (Matrix Code-8 s-flex)   Adams A2P 20* hybrid (Rombax 8D07HB s-flex)
Titleist 716 MB irons 4-PW (Apex 4 soft-stepped)    Callaway Mack Daddy wedges 52, 56, 60 (DG S200)
Odyssey ProType 9 putter

What year are these guys?
[/quote]

Those are the 1984-85 model.

Different paint job than normal, as usually only the Wilson is red. I like it!

Are those satin chrome? Perhaps refinished/rechromed? They look great! I've often thought about trying that with some Staffs, as I am not a big fan of shiny chrome.

The 1984-85 is basically the same head as the 1967-68 model. One of the easiest to hit blades you'll find anywhere, IMHO.

Those Scotch Blades are just gorgeous!

Still prefer the satin chrome on your 84 Staffs. If someone were to ask me, "what should an iron look like?" there's my answer.

Quick question here, I saw a set of Wilson blades yesterday and should have picked them up but didn't. I don't know how much help you all can be here as I will have to look at them more closely and check iron finder to see exactly what year they are but I was wondering about sweet spot location on W/S blades in general. I know most old blades with long hosels had the sweet spot closer to the heel but have read that some of the Wilsons were more centered. Is there a general year range of the old Wilson blades that had a more centered sweet spot? I am going to go back and pick up a set today of either MP-14's or the Wilsons to have as a range and nostalgia playing set and would like to pick whichever one has the more centered sweet spot as that will translate better to regular gamers S56's. I know the MP-14's are heel biased but not sure about Wilsons.

Well they turned out to be 76-77 blades. Loved them so bought them. Felt better than the 14's. I made another post with pics because they have unusual stampings and I wanted to catch some exposure to try to find out what the stamps might be. Probably just personalization but never know.
