They are OK courses for the area. On the mid-low range side for pinehurst. Condition is hit or miss during the summer months but usually in good shape when the winter rye is seeded. Not on the top of anyone's list to play unless they are on a budget.

I live less than 10 miles from Foxfire and these are not budget courses. A good dozen area course with green fees half that of Foxfire. in years past they were getting a bad reputation due to poor upkeep. Membership was dropping, courses conditions were not up to par, and a new company bought Foxfire.

That company dropped about a million dollars in these courses and built a new club house. VERY nice upgrades and this is certainly not a "budget" course. Last time I played (last year) it was about $90 round. The few times before that seems it was $60-70. I can't recall the time of year, but rates on Foxfire are not cheap by any stretch. I work out of state or I would be playing this course on a monthly basis if not more.

These are two very nice traditional Sandhills of NC courses. Some of Gene Hamm's finest work, he even said so himself. These courses are fun to play, yet not overly challenging. Lots of condos and such around as well for folks looking for golf packages. It is 6 miles from Pinehurst also which means it is really close to many other great area courses.

I use to play them often but, the pace of play out there is one of the worst I have seen. I don't think I have finsihed a round out there the last 2 times we played. Alot of nearly deads hacking the ball around and taking 10 minutes on the green just turned me off.

I don't know if this is a budget course or not. However, these two courses would not be at the top of my list. There are better courses and there are worse courses in the area. I played both courses two time over the past couple years. We played it so we could get 36 holes in without driving to another course. We played Woodlake this year for our 36 holes and I can't explain how bad it sucked. Woodlake should be shut down. (Just my opinion)

If you are after budget/value - try country club at whispering pines. very traditional sandhills golf.
