Grafalloy Prolaunch Red

Why no tip trimming ???
I have a PL Red shaft that I want to install in a driver. I have been fitttet somewhere in between stiff and x-stiff, so i thought that I would tip trim the shaft app half an inch. But when i looked at Grafalloy's website thay write "do not tip trim. But trim only"

Anybody know what the reason for this recommandation is ??? Will i ruin the shaft if I do it anyway ?

As long as you don't exceed the parallel tip section with the top of the hosel, you will be fine. A PL Red driver shaft has a 3" parallel tip section, so unless you have a very deep bore/long hosel head design, a half inch tip would work just fine with most heads.

You'll love that shaft in the 9064. The head launches high, but that shaft should keep it under control if you tip it. Good luck!

My thoughts on the PL Red is that it plays stiff to flex. I wouldn't tip it at all. Your ss is well within the suggested range for that flex.

You must have been reading on ProLaunch Blue 55 or something, because a Prolaunch RED has always been a shaft for extra tip trim if needed.
Page 11 confirm what i say, and the trim chart is the regular chart on page 1

For those of you who are familiar with the old original BLUE, the Prolaunch RED, tip trimmed 1" is as close as you can get the olde BLUE, so trim as you like it, but there is only 3" inch tip total.

You must have been reading on ProLaunch Blue 55 or something, because a Prolaunch RED has always been a shaft for extra tip trim if needed.

Howard, correct me if I am wrong, but I am reading that first chart as "Standard Tip Trimming" for the PL Red, and is clarified on page one as zero tip trimming recommended?

Zero tip trim is for trough bore heads, so yes No tip trim on a driver with a trough bore head. On a blind bore, trim the difference (Bottom of bore to ground), if the hosel dept is 1 1/4.
If hosel dept is deeper, adjust trimming with the same amount (less trim if hosel is deeper, since its only the shaft above the hosel who flexes, and that part will be shorter, if hosel is deeper)

example

Bottom of bore to ground = 1"
Hosel dept 1.5" (+ 0.25)
= tip trim 0.75"

(Bottom of bore to ground = 1" minus the extra hosel dept 0.25 = 0.75)

Now it will play to flex, if swingweight is normal (D2-D3)

Resurecting an old thread here but I need to fit a raw, unused ProLaunch Red to a Ping G10 but I would like to check the tip trimming for this head. Any help will be appreciated.

Maximum tip trim is 1". The parallel tip section is 3", so you could get away with 1/2" more if your bore depth is 1/2" or less.

I have played this in S and X. Tip trimming a S 1" plays quite a bit softer than a standard X. It felt softer and seemed to spin more for me. It also depends on your final length and if you add weight to the head. A 44" shaft with extra weight added can play quite a bit softer than a 45" final length with no added head weight in my experience, if the tip trim is the same. So, you could consider a shorter X flex with head weight added, or a S with tim trim at full length.

I recently did this experiment and this was my experience.

Titleist TSI3 8°, Xcaliber Avalon 6 tour stiff, tipped 1", C3 surefit and H2 for backweight, D1 SW, 45 3/8", 40g counterbalance weight;

PING G425 LST 3 wood, set at 13.5° Xcaliber T6* tour stiff, tipped 1 1/4" 43 1/2", D1, 20g counterbalance weight;

Snake Eyes 19° Quick Strike Tour, Xcaliber T6+ Tour Stiff, 20g counterbalance weight;

Maltby TS-1 irons, Dynamic Gold Sensicore X100 (4i is DG X100 soft stepped 1.5 times), D3, 2° flat;

Cleveland RTX Zipcore wedges, black satin, 50°, 54°, 58°, all 2° flat;

Ping TR series Anser 5, 33", 2° flat, 1.5° strong, 75g optivibe at 2" down the shaft and a 12g tourlock pro+ counterweight

Srixon Z Star XV, TP5X, or Maxfli Tour X
