2005 Maru Spec and 2006 X Wedge Comparison

I recently picked up a set of these 2006 Tourstage X Wedge's. The 2006 X Wedge is a limited edition of 1000 sets that came in a black velvet lined box similar to the 05 Maruyama Spec wedges.

The 2006 Tourstage X Wedges differ in my opinion in a good way as compared to the 05 Maru Spec Wedges For one thing they weigh in at D3 vs the D1 and C8 Maru Specs. The sole is also different in the '06 which in my opinion makes them look similar to some of my Vokey's. The word that I've heard is that the '06 X Wedge is actually the "Ai Spec"/ Ai Miyazato Wedges. I'm thinking they didn't call them that because men might not buy them if they were fashioned after a girl. The specs on the '06 are 52-08 and 58-08 both at D3 w/ S200 shafts.

Very nice comparison pics Reid. Tons of pictures and zero toes. (cool) I look forward to reading your impressions on the playability of these wedges. It looks like the slightly narrower sole on the Ai-spec 52 will give you more options on mid approaches, and the mid-camber on the 58 for the greenside shots (though the 59's mild trailing-edge grind probably sufficed for that). I just wish Ai and Shiggy would put their heads together and get a 53/58 combo--this 52/58 and 53/59 isn't doing it for me . . . oh, and that whole "righty-only" bullsh!t gets on my nerves too. ;) One thing I learned out of this though, if it came down to a caged death-match between Miyazato and Maruyama, all my money's on the girl. D3 vs C8? I'm thinking that Shiggy would make a few more cuts if he hit the weight room a little harder. :)

 

I'm just surprised that a thread comparing $1200 in wedges is getting zero love. 50 views in 3 days, with half of those being me? I mean, I know this isn't as groundbreaking as the Ping G2 driver, paintfill in grooves, or the X-tour vs X-18pro comparison, but come on! Are we Golfwrx'ers or Ham&Eggers? :drinks:

I have always liked these wedges, if i were to ever cross over to Import equipmment these would be the wedges i would choose.

 

Great pictures and comparison Reid, do they play the same other than the weight? Do you like one set or the other more or are they too close to call? How would you compare them to other wedges? Vokey, Cleveland, TaylorMade, etc.??
