Atlanta golf in December

The title says it all. A group of us will probably be going to the chick fil a bowl on the 31st and want to try to play a nice course if the weather will permit. Just looking for suggestion on a upper end type course. Doesn't have to overseed but would be nice. Kind of something to help remeber the trip. We played bears best about 2 years ago in April and would consider it again if it was the best option. We havent make any room reservations so we are flexible in where the course is. We are members of a small country club in our hometown and would hope there might ne an option to get on a private course Thanks for the help

You could try Echelon on the northside of town.. Used to be the GA Tech Club.. Pretty long course, nice conditions, they are open to public play. Might be a short term thing, but this time of year, most of the courses are willing to allow reciprocal play, or lower rates to keep busy.

The Frog over out of Atlanta, west side off I-20 is a decent little gig. Nice greens, Fazio course.. It's open to public play, also a Canongate course too. GPS carts, nice layout. Not too tough..


Depends on where your staying I guess... Traffic is a monster in certain areas of ATL, and very spread out as you found out.

to Atlanta. x2 on Echelon. Very nice and TOUGH. Along with the Bear's Best, those are probably the best two options on the Northside, unless you go further up (way up) to Dawsonville and play Chestatee, but I would hardly call that Atlanta - barely even Atlanta area.

On the Southside, three really good options. Crystal Lake and Eagle's Brooke are both down 75 south in the Hampton area, near the speedway. Both are great courses. Eagle's Brooke is tough - think 7,500 (!!) from the tips and if you miss the fairway your ball is lost tough. Highly recommend both, though I probably like Crystal Lake more since Eagle's Brooke just wears my a** out!

Wolf Creek is very close to the airport and during the off-season it's really good if you want to stay closer to the city and not have a 45 minute one-way drive to the course. They overseed which is nice and have great greens. I only play there during the winter because the course has real pace of play issues during the peak season, but when it's not busy it's lots of fun. Starts off par 5, par 3, par 5 and closes with back-to-back par 5s on 17 and 18.

There's lots of mediocre courses in Atlanta, but the nice thing is that the best public courses (listed above) cost so much less to play than an equivalent course costs in other major cities.

The weather has been very cold here recently teens every orning this week. Hopefully youll hit a good week. If you do bears best and echelon are goos choices. If you want something more scenic stone mountain, chestatee or lake lanier might be a choice. Close to town as hills mentioned wolf creek is hard to beat.

Bring your hand warmers and maybe a bottle of your favorite???

Public: Echelon

If you can swing a private course: Piedmont Driving Club or Capital City Club @ Crabapple

I don't think any other courses in the immediate vicinity compare to these.

GC of Georgia would be a good suggestion as well if your on that northside.
