Paint fill 101

Do you have any tips for mixing multiple colors of paint to get a desired shade? I've got a really dark, metallic green that I'd like to lighten up a bit, and I'm thinking that adding some glossy white to it would do the job, but I don't know what ratio to use, an appropriate container for doing the mixing (that won't really upset the wife  ), or even if I'm close to the right path to reach my desired result.

Theres no fixed ratio unless you are dealing with absolutely pure color bases.

In a nut shell , eye ball it in small batches till you get it right.

Generally it takes 'more' to lighten a dark color and 'less' to darken a light color.

The biggest issue , related to the above is that if the color bases are not 100% pure (pure black/white/etc) then you will add tint as well as intensity.

Ok well here is what I was able to get done tonight, only half done but I am liking them so far. I also just did the custom stamping on them this week. Don't be too harsh but the rest of the fill will be white.

Mike-

New to the site here and this tutorial you put up is dynamite. I've started my first paint job on an old ping putter. I wanted to get a little more info before I started on any Scottys. Quick question about filling in the cherry dots on the Studio Select putters: in most professional looking paint jobs I've seen, it appears as if the dots are dark around the edges and lighter as it moves towards the center, giving the dots a very cool iris look. It appears you were able to get this look as well with the black dots on the fastback you posted pictures of a while back. Is that something special you are doing with the paint, or do the dots just look that way with any translucent paint fill? I attached a picture of my cameron as well. It's really noticeable on mine... they're like three little eyeballs. Thanks for your time.

Maybe I'm the only dummy, but I read in an early post that the tal strip has been safe on most of the finishes. We'll i found one it is not safe on.
I probably should a tried in a small spot but like i said (dummy). Apparently the back of the mizzy mx 23's are painted or some other some other finish but the tal strip completely removed it. It doesnt look bad. does anyone know if it's just raw metal now?

Great thread. I think ill test the waters by doing the numbers on sole of my irons. I also have small numbers on the toe of the face...maybe ill do those as well since theyre already bare. Not sure how distracting that will be though.

i have yet to decide which paint is best. I bought some small bottles of acrylic at walmart and they work good for small things like filling in stamps but i just tried to do the numbers on the bottoms of my clubs, and while they look good there are some air bubbles and once the acrylic dries you have to use lighter fluid for the cleanup because acetone wont touch it. Also it peels off all in one piece like latex paint. What paint is the best for bigger projects like numbers and backs of clubs?
