Thanks Huck,

I might try the nail polish idea next. This is just a fun side project so I am not driving all over God's creation for paints. I do not have any places that carry Tamiya in my area.
Me neither. I think others get them off eBay.

Nail polish supposedly works quite well though. Give that a shot first, as it's a pretty cheap investment. If it works, no need to look for others.
I used nail polish as I felt the same way. It was my first try and I didn't want to spend much time or money getting the right stuff. It has held up really well so far!!!

Heres one of my 33s that I did today that I also stamped my initials in. I used a lime green nail polish and it worked out great. Also my Anser that I dont see many people rocking.

This is a great post, thanks so much to the OPster.

I just did my Titleist 695CB's, and my Cleveland wedges, I followed all the steps from this topic. I used a different stripper (just an ordinary stripper from Home Depot) and it didn't hurt the chrome finish on my irons or the dark finish on the wedges.

I decided to go with all red on the irons except for the CB which I did in white. I really like how these came out. They have a nice clean look without being too obnoxiousness

The Cleveland wedges I used orange and white, but I am going to have to go back and mix a little yellow in to match the color on the rubber thing. Other than that I think these look really good too. I changed the "Cleveland" to orange and the degree to white. I also changed the CG from black to white, and the 14 from white to orange. I also filled in the zip groove logo white.

I'm going to do my putter next so we'll see how that goes.

does anyone know how long nail polish lasts on iron soles and just below the ferrule (think i spelled that wrong)
as in the numbers on the soles? mine are still good and i did them a while ago. throw on a extra strength clear coat on top of the colour if you're worried about it coming off

Here is my 1st shot at satin finish and paint fill. I decided to go with Boise State colors on my Nike Vr Procombos, xFT wedges & Nike Method Core putter. I used acrylic clear blue and international orange.

does anyone know it acetone will take off the white paint on the r 11
It took off the finish on the sole of my corza ghost. So I would assume the same for your R11.

I just got a Scotty Cameron Newport 2.5 from a friend for a great price, because the guy HE got it from tried a paint job that turned out pretty rough. Anyway, I'm pretty happy with the results. I used only acetone to strip the old paint, with the help of some toothpicks for the tight areas. For paint, I used some nail polish. I don't have anything to compare it to at this second, but the red (Revlon #675 All Fired Up :man_in_love: ) looks pretty darn close to the original SC red, at least in the lettering. To clean up the excess paint, I used alcohol prep pads, which worked WONDERFULLY. They let me drag the pad over the surface very lightly so only the excess paint pulled away.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with it, especially considering this was my first time doing it. I REALLY like how "Cameron" in black pops out so much. Next time however, if I do the same scheme, I'll go for a blue that's just a hair darker.

As promised, after much trial and error I believe I have found a very good way to paint fill golf clubs. I will try to be as detailed as possible and I am including a few pics. They were taken with my iphone so the pics arent great, but I am extremely happy with the results. I have tried many paints, solvents and dilutes and this is by far the best combination I have found. I feel anyone can do this. I am sure there are other ways to get good results but this is my preferred way
I appreciate constructive criticisms and feel free to ask questions.
I went with a SF Giants color scheme here. All of you dodger fans can suck it ;)
First you need the tools. In this example I used Tamiya color paint in smoke, clear orange, clear red, and clear yellow. I also used testors model enamal for the top sight line. You will also need tal strip paint stripper, acetone nail polish remover, non-acetone nail polish remover, 91% rubbing alcohol, q-tips, toothpicks, towels, lint free rags, gloves (you don't want paint stripper on your fingers!) an old toothbrush and PATIENCE!

First thing you need to do is get rid of all the original paint. With a q-tip apply a liberal amount of tal strip to all painted areas. Wait 5-10 minutes and you will see blobs of paint bubbling out of the spaces.

After all of the paint has bubbled out grab the toothbrush and in a sink you dont mind getting stained (or outside with the garden hose) scrub and rinse out all the spaces that had paint in them. The paint should come right out. Sometimes you may have a few remnants hanging around. If so reapply the stripper to these parts until you are left with only bare metal.

Now take your acetone and give the whole head a good wash scrub. This will remove any oils or remnants of stripper and give you a nice clean surface for the paint. Let it all dry out and now its time to get to painting!

I first use a q-tip to apply a little of the rubbing alcohol to the spaces I'm going to paint. This thins the paint slightly to allow a nice glassy finish when it dries without bubbles. You just need the slightest sheen, not a puddle. This takes practice and it took me a few tries to get right. Now with a toothpick dipped in the paint start applying the paint into the spaces. The paint should "travel" to fill the spaces. If you go outside the lines a little bit thats ok, but start light then work your way thicker. When the paint starts to dry you will get a good feel for how it will finish. If you dont like the opacity, start over. Dont apply a coat over the first.

The topline of the Kombi s was tough because of the angle. I decided on gloss white here for function over form.

So now after all the paint is applied (depending on angles and position you may have to wait to do certain sections, but I recommend holding off on clean up until you are all done) you are going to have some over paint. No worries. Just let it all dry. This takes a while. Heat will help acrylic paints, but enamels only dry by oxidation and that takes time. I wait overnight.
After all the paint is dry grab a lint free cloth or used t-shirt and dip it into the non acetone remover. I use the non acetone here because it does the job without the fear of stripping the paint in the grooves. Using light pressure rub the moist rag over the over painted areas making sure not to get the cloth in the painted grooves until all the unwanted paint is gone.

Now you have a DIY custom club. The beauty of this is if you arent totally happy you can do it as many times as you want.
Enjoy the final product.

Thread revival!
So i've filled several clubs and clear coated, they look great. A few tips, use a plastic toothpick. I used "brushpicks" and they worked reeeeallly good. Don't be afraid to thin the acrylic down, especially the black. I couldn't find the tal-strip but lowes has some stiff called Jasco. Stuff works 50x better than acetone on the older paints.
Now. I have a 3yo vokey oil can that absolutely will not take the fill. I've tried multiple acrylic brands from hobby stores, nail polishes, and paint pens. NOTHING. It has bubbles every time. It looks like it isn't going to, then an hour later they are there. Ive tried every combo I can think of. Its plenty clean, I've thinned the paint before, left it thick, tried the alcohol on the club, tried detailed filling, tryed way overfilling. NOTHING WORKS. I'm about to strip it all the way down to raw and try it that way. Any tips!?? Im going nuts.

Your welcome. Torch wedges are my next DIY project. We'll see how it goes!

Acetone, paint and now a torch at the dining room table? Count me in!....been a while since I took a beating. Maybe I'll be more appreciated when I'm not being an idiot. God bless, this may save my marriage.
