You should definitely do the "grain flow forged" part on the clubs.. That's the easiest part!

They look great though, awesome!

Thanks guys. You're right, I should do the grain flow forged, luckily it will be winter for awhile so it will get done along with the wedges. I guess the next thing to do is stamp, then get ferrules and grips that match. I'm definitely on the slippery slope. yes.gif

No stamp.. Just in case you decide to sell someday!

Oh don't worry, I was referring to stamping the wedges. I'd never stamp the irons, probably give myself a stroke.

Just got into doing some DIY custom clubs... I have a Cameron at the Custom shop now getting refinished... but that's because I want my Circa 62 gamer to have the pro plat. finish so its not so high maintanance. I was getting a little tired of not wanting to game my circa 62 in the mornings because the dew would make the blue gun rust... unless wiped, oiled, wiped, oiled, you get the point.

That being said and $300 of custom work later I decided to do invest $60 or so in Steel Stamps and Testors paint. This weekend I messed around with one of my vokeys and changed the paintfill. It came out pretty well actually after some trial and error. my 50* and 46* Vokeys are the 200 series and have a satin finish.

Heres my question - My 54 and 58 Vokeys have the Black Ox. finish. Will Acetone nail polish remover take off the finish? I also have a Odyssey TD Black Series #8 that I game from time to time and would like to change the paint scheme on. Would the Acetone impact the PVD finish at all?

I would test it out on a backup but I dont have any backup Black Ox wedges laying around.. only satin.

Here's my first attempt....

I did some paint fill on four 2009 Titleist Vokey spin milled wedges this weekend. I'm wondering if Titleist has different facilities for assembly. The paint on two of the wedges could be removed very very easily with acetone while the other two a paint stripper had to be used. Apparently different paints must have been used.

I wanted to update since it seems the question has been asked a ton of times but it doesnt seem to be answered. Acetone nail polish remover did not impact the Vokey Black Oxide finish whatsoever.

Here are my wedges I did last week.

SilverBullet, they look good. To get rid of the air pockets, thin your paint. Paint is too thick. Several thin coats works better than one heavy one when paint is thick. Add the thinner to your bottle a little at a time & mix well. You want the paint in the bottle to be able to move some before applying. I know the pics are exaggerated & show more detail than you would normally see. You want to see how it really looks, use a magnifying glass.

thanks for the tips... i did cake the paint on there pretty good so what you are saying makes sense... this was my first run at painting them and really i did it by trial and error... on the green and orange one you can see where i have some left over white paint in the lines causing the white green line.

i was wondering about the air pockets though so thanks... i will try it next time.

now on to mastering stamping... i have the stamps at home but havent tried stamping anything yet... i will start by messing with some old vokeys i have laying around

Do you guys have tips to make the paint job last longer. Using Tamiya Acrylic paint and find its already coming off on the bottom of my irons.
I used testors model paint on multiple iron sets and they all seem to be holding very well. I believe it is an oil based paint whereas the acrylic you most likely used is water based, which isn't nearly as durable.

I use Testors as well.. havent gamed them too much so idk if the paint will hold up, I've heard it works well... I mean i've hard clubs (my Cameron for instance) that the paintfill just wore off so it cant worse than that... plus you can always just repaint... takes like 20 minutes

OK, I'm hooked now. Dang good thread. Gonna try my gamer set (MP-67s) since I don't use it in the winter. Has anyone ever tried a complete fill so that the letter/number is completely flush with the club surface? I would like a very shiny metallic color. Maybe not even use a paint but instead a resin that will harden and fill the entire letter...?

I'd like to get some "bling" going and if the paintfill letter was flush, using the right color and texture, it would stand out even more. Thoughts?

Ok here is my first effort. I call it my "Cal Bears" set. Also I experimented and put a final layer of epoxy (20 min Final Cure) on top of the paint. The blue is Testors Blue Metallic Flake enamel and the yellow is Model Masters Blue Angel's Yellow enamel. If you look closely, you'll see how the epoxy fills up the entire number and almost fills the Mizuno logo. I hope it holds up over time but I think it will and if so, I won't have to worry about sand getting in the numbers and logo. The blue logo looks like a sapphire inlay under the right light.

I'll share my epoxy technique if there is interest... :aikido:

I'll post again, too, if the epoxy doesn't hold up through a season. It does come out but you have to pick hard at it with a needle.

Here is my first wedge, orange acrylic. I will put a picture of my putter up when it's done. Tal strip works very well. I have found two issues so far- non-acetone nail polish remover still takes off the paint (almost as much as acetone), and I have found the enamel comes off as easy as the acrylic paint, with a longer dry time. So I'll stick with acrylic paint, and use rubbing alcohol to remove the excess paint.

Winter here in the midwest gives a person way too much time to tinker with things. After seeing another post about changing an R11 driver, I just could not help myself. Changed the "R" to black instead of red and the "11" to grey instead of black. Also striped the sole plate and put a brushed finish on it before filling with black and clear coating. Oh, and added a little grey to the small "T" and refilled the white "aylormade" to make it pop just a little more.

Sorry about the crappy phone pics but the wife has the good camera for the forseeable future. Once this was done, the rest of the bag looked pretty ragged so I set out to bead blast the PINGs and do a whole new paint scheme. Pics to follow soon.
