New Titleist Ball

I was recently at Newport Country Club with my boss or super at a local RI country club. He got me out there and he is very friendly with the super over at Newport Country Club. The super at newport told me that he heard of someone finding some prototype titleist golf balls. I looked and looked when I was there in the tall grass but was unable to find any. i was wondering if this is true that there are prototype titleist balls on the tour or was it just a made up story. and if it's true what do you know about it.

Here are the Titleist balls on the conforming list. Does not look like anything new. Only new thing is the Japan release Gran Z. It does look like they have actually taken some balls off since the last time I looked(Pro V1* and Pro V1<>).

im confused the number ! ball in golf would stoop to the level of other balls like the NIKE or BRIDGESTONE. seemless, HMMMMMMMM what an idea. i bet their new slogan will be something like the number 1 ball in golf, more like the number 1 player's ball. hehehehehe

The only thing that Callaway, Bridgestone, Precept and Nike have over Titleist's balls is the seamless cover design. If Titleist made a seamless versions of the Pro V1 and Pro V1X there would be no need for any other balls because it would be perfect!

Okay, here are the pics I have. The story again with this ball is that I have a connection at Crooked Stick, and he gave me this ball this last weekend. He said that several pros were out there with Titleist doing some testing on some balls. This one is obviously a pro v1x. It is not seamless however as some people are mentioning. The feedback I got through my friend is that this ball was about 3-4 yards longer than the current pro v1 ball, and it had the feel and trajectory of the 2004 pro v1x with maybe a touch more control (spin)...so, it seems like it might have the distance of the current X model with the feel and control of the current V1 model.....Which, I think would make for a pretty darn good ball. If they could make it seamless that would be even better, but it doesn't appear that they are going to, at least not by this prototype.

 

 

***The above information is what has been told to me by a source / friend at Crooked Stick, but as you'll see below, it appears that it might not necessarily be accurate, and that this ball might simply be a test ball used on the launch monitors and is identical to the current pro v1x model***

Great, any additional info would help this site out. Pretty neat ball though, I was pretty excited when my friend gave it to me...Wish I had a dozen, then I'd play a sleeve and see what I thought.

 

Here's the link...never saw this auction, but it is an identical ball with identical markings...Maybe his story is more accurate than the one I received, although I have no reason to doubt what I heard, my source has nothing to lose...but maybe he is a little misinformed....anyways, regardless, a rare find and pretty neat.

I think it is. From what I hear those usually have bright colored dots so that the monitor can get spin rate readings

Yes, this ball is used by the fitting crews so it can be accurately tracked on camera by the LM.

These balls are definately for launch monitor testing. I was with Titleist the other day to get a new driver fitted and used exactly the same balls. In fact the rep gave a couple of them to me. There are also normal Pro V1 with the same markings out there.

I got a survey via email from Titleist a week or two ago asking about proposed names and markings for a new ball. So, I would guess they will have something new coming out soon.

The balls in the above picture are Titleist Performance Monitor balls(Titleist propietary launch monitor we have one at my golf shop). As for the survey titleist sent out regarding marks on golf balls, my head pro is one of the 100 advisory staff members here in the US and he received a box of Pro V1 balls 6 had a single arrowed line and the other 6 had a line going down the seam and another perpedicular making a + type design.

definately not a hex pattern ball out there from Titleist...it was a goofy pic angle and reflection or something like that.

met the rep today and there is a new pro v1 and pro v1x ball coming out this spring along with a new nxt and dt solo. titleist is moving away from the urethane elastomer cover and using a more durable cover. i hear that it does great with the spin milled wedges (not chewing them up). suppose to be longer than previous model. c5 experimental is coming out this fall (it's called the detour). 906f2 is also coming out this fall. 585h will be out this fall. august 15 to be exact on the fall models. 775 irons are coming out this fall. cobra has a bunch of new irons (s9 models) coming out and 2 new bafflers. they aren't sure if the blades will be released or not. if they do, then in spring. pass the message.

where i work, (a proshop in Australia), we buy second hand golf balls from a company that ships them from america. every now and then we will pull out titleist balls that look excactly like that.

some ProV1, ProV1X and even a few NXT Tours.

 

probably have a few dozen sitting at home
