Light Carry Bags: PING 4 Under/ Ogio Helios/ SM SuperLight 3.5

Recommended Posts

Opinions please
Looking for a new Lightweight Carry Bag- I like to walk and keep it reasonably light if possible-

Here is what I have narrowed it down too:

-Ping 4 Under....under 4lbs I assume?

-Ogio Helios...claimed weight 3.3lbs??

-Sun Mountain Superlight 3.5....3.5 lbs???

-need rainhood
-enough room for windbreaker/rain jacket if necessary
-sunglasses pocket
-14 clubs...with tees and balls
-comfortable

Ping 4 under is the best I have used. Only minor problem is the grips tangling but not that big of a deal. Has enough room for the essentials.

I think the weight of the SM and Ogio bags is without the stand and strap. You would need to contact the OEM to confirm but I think that’s the deal. Ping weighs the entire bag.

I wouldn't read too much into that - I think the SM is weighed without the strap, but even with the strap the it isn't likely to be too much more. I tried out the Ogio, Ping Hoofer, SM 3.5 and SM Four5, with the latter being the heaviest (~5lb). I went with the Four5 because it was the most comfortable when I tried them in the store. I have only just started walking this season and haven't been struggling with the weight after 4 rounds - and I load my bag with a whole bunch of unnecessary stuff! Oh, and I am NOT a fit guy :p

+1
I tried the Ogio, SM 3.5 and Four 5 and left with the Four 5. Really comfortable to walk with, good pocket space, 14 club divider (my preference), and very cart friendly now. In addition to balls and tees, I put my wallet, sunglasses, cigars, water, alcohol, and sweater in their when necessary. Any it comes with a rain hood.

I used to love almost any Ping bags until they went to that retractable strap system. Reason being is that I prefer to carry a bag on my left shoulder primarily and then use the second strap around my right shoulder. On older Ping bags this was never a problem as I could switch the straps around and make that work, but with the retractable strap it forces you to pick up the bag with your right hand/right shoulder first.

As such I've gone to the Titleist lightweight stand bag, which I believe is basically a SM 3.5. I like the backpack style straps but still have a tough time with the right shoulder thing.

I have the Titleist Ultralight (which is basically the same bag as the Sun Mountain Swift X) and it has been a really good bag.

There's enough room for 14 clubs and a jacket or rain suit. But the thing isn't too large.

Those who like lots of dividers aren't going to dig it and will think it is too small, but it is basically the smallest/lightest carry bag out there.

I've had mine for more than a golf season and it is still holding up just fine.

They can be had for less than $100 on eBay.

I have the Sun Mountain variant, a 2010 Swift X, and couldn't agree more--a superb bag. My 14-divider stand bag never leaves the house anymore, whether I'm walking, riding, going to the range, whatever. The Swift X has plenty of space for everything you need in any but the worst winter weather and doesn't encourage carrying a whole lot of extraneous junk. Plenty of room for 14 clubs and no difficulties keeping them organized as you pull and replace them during a round. Best of all, walking with it feels like not carrying anything. I've had mine for a little over a year, and it still looks like new.

Yep +2 on the Swift X!

I have the white with black and red... Lots of features and dividers are nice, but when you boil it down, you don't need all that crap. 2 way top, plenty of pockets, water bottle sleeve (that doesn't drop your bottle!) super light about 2.5-3 lbs, fits in a cart just fine, and looks great. The stand legs are powerful and open very nicely. My only gripe is that if you play big midsized/oversized grips, (i don't anymore) 14 clubs can get a little tight in the bag at the bottom, other than that it is the crown jewel of lightweight stand bags. Nice colors too, i love the green one.
