Which 3h do you use?

Big D McGee

Looking to upgrade from my cheapo one
I've been hitting my 4h very well the past two weeks, I've finally figured it out. Now I want to replace my 3h that I got for free with a better model.

I have a gift certificate and coupon for Golf Galaxy, so I can afford to spend a little bit. I've heard the Halo is the absolute best for high handicappers like myself.

What do you all think? TM Rescue? Nike CPR? Callaway Fusion hybrid? Or should I stick with the best-reviewed and get a Halo?

Thanks!

THe nice thing about Golf Galaxy is you can hit them all in their net and get a basic idea. Go with whichever suits your eye. I have the Taylormade Rescues and love them but I recently hit the Adams and Ping models and they were nice, both were forgiving. Spend the time and try out a bunch and just keep narrowing it down. You'll have a good time and in the end get the club that works for you

Suggest using their launch monitor and hitting a few different hybrids into it. Look at ball flight primarily because it should be a control club not a distance club.

Someone suggested the Sonartec MD, and I can attest those are great (see my sig.) but they may not be the best choice for a higher handicapper as there are more forgiving hybrids out there.

Look for a hybrid with a good bit of roll and bulge on the face to help correct unwanted sidespin. Also, a good shaft in a hybrid is just as important as it is in a driver, so look for not only the hybrid that suits you best, but match it with the shaft that suits you best as well.

Since you have a gift cert, check out the Baffler (These are great!!!! and you might be able to get two!), also the HALO is great too.

Since you mentioned you are a higher hcpper, if slicing is your issue, stay away from the Titleist, Rescue TP or Fusion (WIth the exotic shafts, the stock NVS is fine) and the Sonartec. THey may feel great, but it might require too much work for fun on the course.

Other really good options are the Nike Slingshot hybrid, Adams A2OS and the ping.

THe HALO may be on sale since the new Hybore hybrid is out, and to me, it looks the same.....all marketing.

Just get what looks good to you and then try them out. Happy hybrid hunting

Thanks for the heads-up about the Sonartec. I saw the Sonartec in your bag when we played at Bella Vista, and a guy I work with at my night job swears by his. Of course, he's a ten handicapper. I'll try the Sonartec, but I'll bear in mind that it might not suit my game yet.

I really like the look of the MacTec NVG2 hybrid, I'll definitely give that a whirl. I'll also definitely look at the face to see which one is most forgiving. I've heard good things about Adams, and I like my new Adams LP 3-wood with the Graffaloy shaft. Really great off the tee.

The cool thing about Golf Galaxy is that their selection of pre-owned clubs is very extensive, and they're all in very good shape. I may be able to get two, provided I like the look/feel and they have the correct shaft.

Should be a fun lunch today, thanks everyone for your suggestions!

If you're gonna be at 5 Ponds tomorrow I'll bring my Nickent 3DX ironwood #3 for you to try. It has an X-100 in it and is basically brand new. Hit maybe 30 times. Not sure if that'll suit you or not. I don't use it at all though. I bought the Nickent and a Nike CPR and I like the CPR so the Nickent is collecting dust. Let me know. I'll make you a deal you can't refuse. Simp

I wish I could make it, but I owe the wife some down time this weekend, plus I'm working 8-2 on Sauturday. Tell you what though, I'll definitely demo the Nickent (heard great things about it!) and if I like it I'll PM you! Thanks for the offer!

This saturday I went to Golf Galaxy and tried the TM Rescue, Cleveland Halo, Nike Slingshot hybrid, the Adams A2OS, Cobra Baffler, and just because I like my 2005 MacTec, the MacGregor MacTec NVG2 3UT.

Boy, am I glad I decided to try the MacTec!! Just like my driver, when I made any kind of decent swing, the ball launched easily and had very good distance. When I managed to flush it a couple of times, the ball went almost 180 with a slight draw! I'm used to hitting my 3W about 180 so that was awesome.

The Halo, Adams, and Baffler were all great clubs too. The MacTec just felt "right", and as you all know, that's like 80% of the battle.

The coolest thing? They had a used one with the steel FM 6.0 Rifle Shaft (which I actually prefer to graphite) for $99. I had a coupon for $25 off used clubs, so I paid $89 for the club and re-gripping of my MacTec driver. Sweet! Got a midsize Winn grip on my driver, and it did make a difference. Maybe it's just psychological, now that my huge mitts have the proper size grip, but who cares!

Suddenly, par-5's aren't as scary to me! Thanks for all the input everyone gave, I really feel like I tried all the best hybrids out there and found the one that suits me best.
