Wedges Combination

Carlo

Recommended Posts

What do you actually use? 56* and 60* or??
I am wondering on what is the best combination for 3 wedges (including pitching)

For example I have a 48* pitching wedge and I was wondering if to use 52* and 56* or 56* and 60* or even 52* and 58*...
I really like the lob 60* wedge, but I think there is too much gap between the 52* and 60*

What are you guys using?

Thanks

I have a 46* PW and use a 52* gap and 58* sand/lob. It works out fine for me, I hit the PW about 135-140yds, the gap about 125-130, and the 58* up to 110 yds. I like the three wedge set-up because it allows me to carry driver, 3-wood, 5-wood, and hybrid (in place of my 3I).

If my PW were 48* I would keep the 6* of difference and go with a 54* and 60* wedge. Hope that helps.

I have the same exact make up 46, 52, 58 and if my pw was 48 I would play 54, 60.

... all the experts agree that 4* is ideal and 6* is maximum. anymore and you are forced to play too many different shots with one club. the wedge game is built on consistancy, and the more you can hit the exact same shot, the better.

... i have used a 48*-54*-60* for 15 years. i use a 53* mpt bent to 54 and a nike forged 60*... ideally i'd like to play 48/52/56/60 but my swing/yardages are so ingrained, i'll stay with what my muscles already know.

I've played a PW, GW, SW, LW combo for years.

Current is 48-52-56-60, but before the current irons that are in the bag it was 46-50-56-60, or 46-50-54-58.

With the current set up, if I had to drop a wedge I would play PW at 48, SW at 54, and probably my 60 LW.

I play a 52, 58 and 64. I grew up playing with only one wedge and I'm pretty good at that. So for pretty much everything 120 to 60 yards, I use my 52. Inside 60 yards I use whichever club best suits the shot I need to make.

Nice and unbelievable you can get those distances with the wedges!!!

I can maximum (with my fastest swing) get a 70 yards with my lob wedge... :idhitit:

I have never had a Pitching wedge over 48* (120 yds) and have always used 53* (100 yds.) and 59* (70 yds.) and have found it to be the ideal combo. The 53 is almost a Gap Wedge, but also a Sand Wedge for those long bunker shots. The 59* is a Lob Wedge, Greenside Bunker Wedge, and any distance from the fairway less than 70 yards.

Carlo,

It sounds like your set on keeping a 60*. I would add a 54 and if your still having trouble covering the gap between the pw-54 then bend the pw to 49. It worked for me. If it doesn't work you can change it back.

Yes, I really get some of my best shots and score less with my 60*... my major problem is that I like to carry 4 wedges and play around with the long irons/hybrids combination, but sometime (depending on the course to play) I have to take out a wedge to make space for an extra long club... I feel something missing without a wedge all the times and this affect my game.

Eventually I can try what you say and see if I feel good with it.

Thanks

Carlo

i bought and sold two different 60 degree wedges. at my lowsy level, 3 wedges (after the W 47 degree iron set one) was too many, so i bailed and went w, 54, 58. i use the 58 from the sand most the time, and gently around the green. mainly i drop to the 54 for most things as my defacto wedge. your mileage may vary (kilometerage if you are metric). W/54/58 gave me another club back into the bag up top, presently a 3 iron, but i could bail on that and whip out a 4 wood or a 5 wood, my major pain is 180-210yards i would say... best of luck! peter
