Golf shaft epoxy

Is there any epoxy available at Home Depot or other store that would work for re-shafting irons with steel shafts? The two Golf Galaxy's in my area no longer carry shaft epoxy and I'd like to re-shaft a set of irons this weekend. Thanks.

The main thing to look for in epoxy for golf clubs is SHEAR strength. Get something that has 2500 psi or more.

It's been covered a ton and a search would've covered it. Popular brands there? Devcon, Gorilla, 3M dp810.

I just picked up some of the Gorilla epoxy and shafted up a driver and a hybrid with it. So far so good. The only thing I dont like about it is it is pretty thin when you mix it. The golfsmith and golfworks epoxy are quite a bit thicker, and in my opinion, easier to work with. The Gorilla epoxy breaks down quicker when pulling a shaft, so you get less heat on the shaft tip.

I haven't used the Gorilla epoxy, but after having the Golfworks version fail twice, I switched to Devcon and haven't had trouble at all.

I have a set of c-tapers on the way and will be using the Devcon again.

Which Devcon epoxy are you using? Is it the 5 minute gel or something different?

I haven't tried the 5 min gel. I have only used the regular, non-gel 5 min epoxy.

when mixing make sure you mix it for about a min

after you apply let it set i let mine set over night to fully cure

Where does everyone find the devcon and the 3m epoxies that are so talked about here? I've been to Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, Autozone, Orielley and I cant find them anywhere. I found some Versachem epoxy, but it is only rated for 1500psi. I've found locktite epoxy, but it has a 302° breakdown temp according to the package, which I think might be a bit too high. Then there is the Gorilla, which has been pretty good so far. That is all that I have been able to find between all of the stores in my area. I guess I need to order some online.

From some other threads, I think most people order the 3M online. I buy the Devcon from my neighborhood Lowes.

The 810 3m is no good for hot trunks. It breaks down on hot days.That's been covered also !!

Most Ace hardware stores have the Devcon, JB Weld and Gorilla product lines.

I found the Devcon at a local family owned hardware store. Is this the right one?

I am definitely done with the Gorilla epoxy. It is entirely too thin, and I think it settles down into the bottom of the hosel, and does not give a full weld all the way up the hosel I.D. I've noticed that the last 3 clubs I shafted with the Gorilla epoxy felt horrible, and the first 2, I attributed it to the fact that I had just tipped the hybrid shaft 1/2", and the driver shaft (WB73x) was tipped already 1". When I decided I did not like the driver shaft I had installed, I re-installed my BB73x using the gorilla epoxy (first time I shafted it I used the golfworks 5 minute tour van epoxy, probably the best feeling driver/shaft combo I have ever hit, but was just looking for a little lower launch), and the club had lost all feel. That made me think that with the epoxy so thin, that it was not filling the entire ID, and causing voids which is effecting the feel. Just looking at this Devcon in the tubes, it is much thicker than the Gorilla, and appears to be a similar thickness as the Golfworks epoxy. I may give the WB another shot using this epoxy. I've had other WB/driver combos, and I have a WB in my 3 wood, and all of them have felt phenomenal.

That will work fine but they have a 5 min gel version with the same specs that works great. The gorilla epoxy has very low viscosity and you need to mix it longer to get it to start to cure a little. Working time is too short. Stick with Devcon or golfworks/golfsmith tour van epoxy.

I've tried the Devcon on a few clubs. And it works fine, I never had any issues but I prefer the Golfworks stuff.

That was the only one available at the store I went to (they did have some other Devcons, but they were different strengths and break down temps). I usually buy the 5 minute epoxies, but I never play a club the same day it was reshafted, so the longer cure time doesnt effect me.

Never had a problem with it, but I never leave clubs in the car because that's an invite for thieves and I clean mine every time I use them.
