Nike Sumo

I hit the Nike Sumo and even though it looks goofy I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised by this club. Talk about loud...wow. Great feel as well. Also, rumor is Tiger is testing the Square now and expects to play it eventually. Give Nike credit for something, they reach for new concepts but without new concepts and innovation half the technology wouldn't exist. They do a great job at bringing new ideas to market and testing the boundries of golf innovation. By the way...wedges and putters are sick as well.

My clubfitter told me recently that a square shaped driver is NOT a new concept and design. Not sure how far true this is though.

It would be interesting that a square driver has a non-square (closed or open) face but non-square (eg. pearl-shaped) driver has a square face. :cheesy: :D

However this one appears to have used Hal Sutton's head as the primary mold. Can anyone verify?

The local shop just finished demoing the two models and deemed them to be the loudest drivers ever. Funny how that happens everytime a new driver is shown around. X-460, Cobra HS-9 both were deemed to be the loudest ever. By the way that is the only comment they had about the club. None were screaming about fantastic performance, accuracy, forgiveness---just the noise.

 

The (SUMO2) one I hit out in AZ was just as good as most of the drivers available today but nothing I would describe as "better". I didn't think it was all that bad to look at and also didn't think it was that loud. Maybe that's just the variation in samples across the country.

Hard to believe any driver is louder than the original ERC and the old Cobra drivers from about 3 years ago...

i did speak with a rep today and he did confirm the NIKE SUMO that you saw is indeed modeled after HAL SUTTON'S head. i believe i found the original prototype pics. hope you enjoy!!?

i believe that mizuno once had a driver which had a very square head i think the model was called HOT ! but it was a good few years ago !

Verified! Also, the club head, like Hal Suttons', emits sweat at an alarming rate via a 2 gallon reservoir located within the club head itself so the ball comes in contact with a thin layer of this briny liquid and therefore reduces spin resulting in longer and straighter drives! Ya gotta love technology!
