Thanks for the link, however the site is not 100% intuitive. I clicked the link for get rates, and plugged in my locations (Connecticut to Florida) and 25lbs for my clubs. These are the results I got, do they look accurate? 3 day ground shipping for $19.13 sounds like a bargain.

Looks like about $25 each way Richmond to Savannah. You would think with all the ads they run they would have golf specific rates though.
[/quote]

Yeah exactly, I thought there would be some intuitive specific rates for golf clubs somewhere on the site. I'm not sure how they would need to be "packaged" and stuff. Hoping someone could share how they went about shipping their clubs

I sent mine from Virginia to Illinois. Went to FedEx, they packed them, I called ahead to make sure they would be accepted where I was sending them. had the package insured and the receiver had to sign for them. They were there when I got there. I brought them home with me as I returned by car. Forgot exactly what it cost, but it was not very much. Better than being busted, lost, or stolen by/on the airline. I'll do from now on when I travel.

Just talked to my buddy. His dad does it all the time and his dad says it's easy and they'll help you package them at the store, which is good news

I'm still going to go down there and talk it over a few weeks before I leave just to get ducks in a row...

Gonna do this when I go to San Diego in Sept...

anyone got S.D. resident ID I can use for Torrey Pines?

If you look middle eastern, bi racial, or latino - I got you covered.

btw - not sure if you've been here or lived here before, but there are much better courses to play then TP. Unless you just want to say you played at TP.

the guy i book my Myrtle beach golf recommends that and will allow you to ship clubs to his office. ran into courses that will have fedex pickup your clubs for you after the round at the course. Everyone said it is better and safer then the airlines.

I plan on doing this when I go on vacation in September. Just taking the family to visit my folks, but I hate flying with clubs. Not only are they prone to damage, but with a 20 month old, the less you have to drag through the airport the better. For all the commercials they run you'd think it'd be a special service, but it's really just shipping your clubs as you would as if you'd sold them. Ground to most places is in the $25 range. Plan ahead, as it's 4 day delivery, max.

Much cheaper than checking bags, though, and you can insure them for just a couple bucks. So even if they DO break, you have money to buy new clubs!! :partytime2:

Why yes, I am Italian but I look more hispanic especially with facial hair  People talk Spanish to me all the time. When we went to Peru, it was a problem

And as far as other courses...I'm listening. Would be nice to have TP under my belt, but I am certainly not closed minded...

Without a doubt - Aviara.

There aren't many close seconds unless you want to drive a little over an hour and go to Trump in PV.

But in SD, def. Aviara. You can usually get 40% off a decent tee time, too. Rancho Bernardo Inn is another great course with a lower price tag.

Let me know when you're in town, and maybe I come out for a round.

I'd love that, I think we'll be there sept 17-24, maybe through the 27th. Wife is going for a conference and we're tagging along as a vacation. I'll keep you posted, I'm 99% sure it will be a mid week play situation.

Thanks for the heads up!

I actually think RB Inn is grossly overpriced for what it is. $85 on Golfnow, I think? Not worth it to me. I'd rather play at Sycuan for the money, or Steele Canyon.

Oh Scuan for sure - it's just RB is 4 miles away from me. Sycuan is a bit of a drive.

I've used Golfbagshipping.com a couple of times to ship my clubs. They send you a shipping kit and arrange everything with Fedex for pick-up and delivery. They use Tyvek bags with industrial-strength zip-ties to secure them closed. I just put my whole travel bag in the bag and it works great.

I used the service for my honeymoon out to Hawaii 5 years ago and it was flawless. I used it this past March to ship from Boston to Marco Island in FL - it was fine but the Marriott charged me a $35 "handling fee" to allow Fedex to pick it up for the return shipping.

Yeah, guess you gotta factor in the drive. Rancho Bernardo Inn wasn't BAD by any means, I just didn't think it was worth the money. It's kinda of a "just because" rate, in that they charge that much just because the clientele there pay it. Nice facilities though - pro shop and bar were great.

i'd love to do this and not give any more money to the airline fuckers, but it seems impractical.

i need my clubs on sunday to play, i could ship them on monday, but they HAVE to be there tuesday night (650am tee time in phoenix wed morning). overnight delivery gets expensive.

I guess they don't censor anymore. :D That is funny.
You can factor in the shipping time and ship ahead of time. Fedex is pretty spot on when it comes to estimated delivery. East coast to west coast is pretty much 4 days. Midwest to west coast usually 3 days. U can insure package for loss as well.

I went to Kauai and took my clubs with me using a hardshell case. It was no problem except for transporting them from terminal to the parking lot bus and vice versa. That was a pain in the a**. If I had to do it again, I would ship FedEx. In fact, FedEx has an advertisement for this very purpose in this month's Golf Digest.

Time to get that backup set that you can ship to Phoenix in advance.

I would also pick up a couple packs of childrens socks to cover each iron head. Then weave a couple towels (golf towels you'd probably take anyway) through the heads to minimize movement. Really nice if you get a roll of stretch wrap to mummy up your whole bag before it goes into the box. Use LOTS of tape, as clubs are heavy against those seams.

One more thing: adding a PVC pipe to your bag with a cap on the bottom and top that's a couple inches taller than your driver will ensure that your driver doesn't land on it's head with the full brunt of a careless toss or drop.

PG - I use covers for my woods and utilities, but my irons just stay in their slots. I also used a zippered rain cover for the entire top of the bag. Then, I just stuff some newspaper or excess bubble wrap leftover from other purchases to limit shifting inside the box.

FedEx and UPS have never been a problem for me, but I tend to use UPS because it's cheaper. Factor in travel time. I never play on the day of arrival so I send my clubs to arrive the day of arrival and never have a problem.

I only ship if I know I'm getting multiple rounds in on the trip. Otherwise, I just rent locally if they have decent clubs. Gives me a chance to try newer clubs from different brands as well.

I have a hardcase, but it makes no sense to use it except with airlines. I don't care for airlines much though because I fly out of Newark and Phila, and have about almost a 50% record of lost or misdirected baggage. They can never get my luggage to Vegas!
