proper way to carry a stand bag?

okay..just got a new stand bag. first time in over 10 years as i mostly use a push cart with a cart bag.

 

should the bag be parallel to the ground while on my back?

or more of a 45 degree angle to the ground?

 

while carrying this morning, i noticed my left shoulder getting tired(felt like most of the weight was on my left shoulder)

 

Any tips on how to properly position the bag on my back would be appreciated!

My experience is that the bag's back pad should be between your lower back and rear-end (in a position that feels comfortable to you).  

I've tried various positions from parallel to a 45* angle and I've found that a 20* is about ideal.   Parallel...the clubs can start to "shake" out of the bag.   45* is a bit awkward to carry.  20* is about right for me.

I don't think there is any absolute right way. I would go what is most comfortable for you and provides you with the least amount on strain on your back.and shoulders.

Make sure that it's adjusted to distribute the weight evenly between both shoulders and the bag is balanced so that the clubs don't want to fall out. Other than that I don't think the angle matters much unless you are trying to carry adult clubs in a junior bag like my wife does. Hers want to pitch forward and fall out of the bag some times if she carries the complete set.

I have to say the bags these days are amazing. I remember carrying a vinyl Jones bag with a minimally padded single strap. Forget that!

You don't want the bag totally horizontal, because the clubs can slip out. There should be a slight tilt, but most of the bag manufacturers these days are wise about weight distribution so they have the straps set up in such a way that the bag will hang comfortably at a slight angle without putting too much pressure on either shoulder.

The card I got with my Sun Mountain bag suggest a setup at 10*. For me, that's a little low and fell like my clubs will fall. But take it for what it's worth.

I still use a single strap from one of my staff bags and it works great. I hate the dual shoulder straps. IMHO, they are much more difficult to use.

Wow, really? It's just like putting on a backpack! How can they possibly be much more difficult to use? You must have some issue with your shoulder joint, because it is no different than putting on a backpack.

Wow, really? It's just like putting on a backpack! How can they possibly be much more difficult to use? You must have some issue with your shoulder joint, because it is no different than putting on a backpack.

I don't use a backpack. Also, my clubs are carried with a single strap with the a$$ end forward and my clubheads behind me and the bag hanging at about a 25* angle. Been doing that for 35 years.

My first job as a kid was caddying, did that from 13-16. Because of that I only use one strap on my right shoulder clubs forward. As a 90# kid hauling around some old farts 45# single strap staff bag, my right shoulder got used to it.

But, if I do use my other strap, I like to have it slightly above horizontal, just enough so the clubs don't fall out.

I agree. Have never found a 2 strap that I like.

For one, I don't like the bag riding on my back. Clubs rattle all around every step I take. Seems a lot harder to walk.
