Atlanta Clubs

Does anyone have any thoughts on the following Atalnta clubs: St. Ives, Ansley Golf Club, Capital City Club, or Marietta Country Club? I'm curious mainly about the quality of these courses in terms of playability, conditioning, routing, etc. Many thanks for any thoughts.

Capital City has multiple locations. Crabapple is definitely one of my favorite courses in GA and a nice test of golf.

Ansley also has two locations. Midtown is a 9 holer that's literally downtown Atlanta. Nice little 9 hole track. Range is only 150 yards max...definitely a negative if you like to practice. Settindown Creek is also a very nice one.

Marietta Country Club is waaaaaaaaaaay overpriced. They think waaaaaaaaaay too much of their course/themselves. Not a terrible track, but definitely not one of the best.

Not too familiar with St. Ives. I've heard it's nice.

Capital City is top notch, 2 courses. They just finished up a renovation of the in town course last year. Love Crapapple.

St. Ives.....I have only played the course once, but was not overly impressed. Very Nicely mancured, but the layout was boring. Very much a subdivision course. The facilites were nice. if you are looking in that area, check out River Club.

besides initiation fee are there monthly dues at CCC?

Probably $500+green fees and food. If you are over 35, the initiation fee is close to $100K.

I'd like to add another one to the list: Dunwoody Country Club? Any thoughts on the course in terms of conditioning and routing? Also, any thoughts on initiation fee and monthly dues?

DCC is nice, it's one of the old school clubs in the area. I would say the initiation fee is $50-75K. There is only one hole there that is odd, it's a short little par 4 that is about 320 that doglegs....its just out of place. I really like the rest of the course a lot.

It's not exactly in Atlanta but is in the general vicinity. I played Dogwood Golf Club and Pinetree Country Club several years ago and really like both of them. It's my understanding that Pinetree underwent a renovation since I have been there.

Dogwood is right by my house. I really want to like the course since it is so close to my house.

Initiation = correct. The total monthly outlay (dues + ancillary expenses) would be significantly north of $500, however. Of course it is one of Atlanta's premier clubs -- definitely not a Canongate type experience.

For $100K initiation and [b]"significantly north"[/b] $500+ monthly dues, my recommendation would be to go buy a lot/condo at Reynolds Plantation and join the Heritage level membership for the same initiation (actually can be had for less or free depending on lot/seller) and the monthly dues are around $600-700 with no food minimums.

I actually spent a few years in St. Ives. Nice club and community but I thought the golf course was kind of "meh". CCC, on the other hand, is a wonderful facility and golf course...just not worth $100K though (to me at least).

I have played St Ives 2 times, and you feel the same way I do about it. It was in good shape, but it was just a sub-division course.

The whole idea behind CCC is to keep it in the family, hence the low cost to join as a Jr Member. I just wish 50 yers ago one of my family memebers would have joined
