Hey all I was just wondering what you all think of the feel of callaway balls specifically the HX and Warbird Series. To me it seems that almost every non tour callaway ball I have ever used feels very clicky and hard of the clubface. Does anyone else know what I'm getting at. Not saying its a bad feeling but just very different. Also curious to see what balls you all play so leave that in your post!

Aren't all, regardless of OEM, non tour balls a bit clicky, or otherwise not tour ball caliber?

HX Bite isn't that bad, never hit a Warbird or whatever the others are called.

There are several good balls out there at less than tour pricing, but tour balls are still the best...just buy them on sale in 3-4 dozen quantities.

I have not paid more than 27 a dozen in couple of years now.

Well I would agree to an extent with you but for me nxt's and e series bridgestones are not very clicky at all compared to HX Tour's and Warbirds. Not really complaining and the balls I am talking about I have found on course. For the most part I pick out all the ProV's out of the 5 dollar a dozen bucket at some local courses and play those :).

I've got nothing against Callaway's but I've never been to impressed. I prefer the softer feel of others. I played tour I's and tour Ix's for a summer, and in my opinion they both felt hard off the face. As for the mid levels, some are better than others. The diablo's are the only ones i can really stand.

haven't tried the diablo's but I totally agree with you on the other parts.

The Warbirds are kind of meh. I did like the Callaway HXDT a lot. I liked the iS over the iZ, but man, does that iZ ever get out there. Too distracted with the distance to worry about sound.

Thinner cover - more distance = more click for most golf balls out there. But yes, I do agree that Callaway golf balls have a distinctive click to them for the most part. The Tour i(S) had a very soft cover and a much more muted sound.

I agree the Warbirds are similar to the Topflites, hard as rocks.
Yeah this seems to be the consensus. Seeing as Callaway owns Top Flite (I think) I wonder how similiar the warbird and top flite xl really are?
Callaway purchased Spaulding's golf division (Top Flite, Strata, Hogan) in 2003. I don't know the specs of the originals, but I am sure they are pretty close.

I used to play the iX's before they went away and they were always more "clicky" than other premium balls I thought. I didn't really have a problem with it though, as they were great.

For the days I play casual rounds with friends, or colder days, I play the HX Hot Bite. They are also "clicky" but again, it's not a problem for me.

Callaway balls have been really good to me and their hex dimple design works well.

I found a HX Red yesterday in the leaves and played it a few holes. It was as clicky a ball as I've ever heard, like the bad Top Flites we all know about. I tossed it into a pond - just too distracting to hit. But, the Gamer and HX Diablo Tour are excellent balls. They stack up very well to any non-urethane I've played (NXTs, E6 or 7, Trispeeds). There's just too many balls on the market to blanket trash a hole company. I haven't played all of Cally's premiums, but the Diablo Tour is my current gamer.

I agree that the newer HX Red is junk. The old HX Red was a great ball though. Very disappointed when they changed it.

Not the biggest fan of Callaway balls, especially the Warbird which is a low level POS. I am still trying to figure out which balls to play, really liked the Taylormade Penta Practice balls which are $20/dozen but rockbottom has Nike Tour One for $20/dozen supposed to be very soft and also has e5's for $13/dozen

The original HX Red/Blue were 3-piece urethane balls. Those were replaced with the HX Tour. Then Callaway came out with the HX 2-piece Red/Blue which were 2-piece surlyn balls that evolved into the Big Bertha Red/Blue. This is probably why you didn't like them but they were not meant to be a direct replacement.

This is my totally irrational reason for never really playing a Callaway ball--when reading placing the ball on the tee so that the Callaway logo can be read from right to left, the sidestamp model name is stamped on the right side of the ball (I'm a righty so on the side of the ball the clubface will strike). I draw a red line over the sidestamp so whenever I hit a Callaway ball, I get red sharpie marks all over the driver/fw/iron face all the time. BUT I can't just turn the ball on the other side so the sidestamp faces another direction b/c the Callaway logo flips upside down when you rotate the ball! I haven't seen another brand of ball designed like this. Anybody else bothered by this? Probably not haha

But I second on the HX diablo tour--I've tried those and they are a nice ball for the price.

Yeah I don't like the placement of the sidestamp and the fact that the brand logo is flipped upside down when playing the stamp to the outside. I don't like seeing the sidestamp at address as I find it distracting. Phil is a lefty and is their biggest pro name but I doubt that is the reason they put the sidestamp on the opposite side. Most golfers are RH and he could get his balls custom made with the stamp on the other side if he had an issue. Although I wish they would just keep the brand logo consistent on both sides.

They can be clicky and feel hard depending on which you go with. I generally like them though as the hex really cuts though the wind.

I've always felt the same way about the Callaway balls I've tried. They all seem hard/clicky. They don't feel like other 3-piece tour balls I play?? I have never bought any because of this, but have tried them on the course when I find one or get them for free.
I'm sure they make great golf balls, just haven't tried enough of them I guess??

The Original Poster asked about Callaway. I agree e5 Precepts are awesome, and even better value (if insist on new) are the Precept EV Extra Spin, like 15 for $16.

One of my weekend foursome buys used balls, and they're very nice (for him), gets various major tour balls for like $12 a dozen.

Each to his own. I demonstrated to one guy, who is so cheap, that playing Pinnacles was hurting his game. Gave him couple of sleeves of Tour level balls to play, even he agreed worth the money.

I git some hex chromes from the Callaway rep and they fantastic. Built for moderate swing. Ball flies off the face and no clicking. Liked it better than the 330rx.

Thats great news for Callaway could you tell me how they do distance wise I may be interested because in the past I liked the distance callaway balls gave me but hated the feel.

Distance was fantastic. Maybe the longest balls I ever hit. Really seem to work perfect for a moderate swing speed. I saw the 2012 and Callaway is changing the entire line. I demoed the Bridgestone RX and E6. These are longer than both and seemed like RX around the green.
